Have you ever felt embarrassed about winning ?

Slightly embarrassed last year winning a Monthly Stableford Division 1 with 34 points while the other 3 divisions were won with 39 and 43! I think out of the 40 or so who entered the comp my score was about the 25th best - but it was the best in Div 1...!

Its looking pretty good, played a few holes myself tonight as the evening was nice.

We need some rain, and as we go through April the grass will really start growing, and I'm certain we are going to have a course to be very proud of this summer, and possibly back to its very very best by 2012.
Maybe even get a Seniors event again in the future if we're good enough, that would be good.

We have some areas being re-turfed after treatment for grubs etc, the damned crows have made a right mess in certain areas, in fact, if you didnt know different, you'd have sworn someone had been going crazy with a spade ffs.

But you'll enjoy it, I'm sure, and would be good to get you back again in a few weeks to have a knock and a beer in prep for our Matches ?

Never embarrassed about winning, and don't begrudge others winning, even when i have a good score. Had a net 63 in one of our bigger board comps last year, and was beaten into second place by a net 58. I was just pleased to play so well for a change, and to get my handicap cut. Any prizes are just a bonus.

couldn't agree more. It's the rub of the green on the day.

My regular playing partner has taken money in about half a dozen comps with average scores by being the only division 1 player in the feild. Not many decent players in midweek comps at my place.

The problem for them inevitably comes when it is a one off honours board event and then they really are at the mercy of the high guys having a good day.

I don't think high h/cappers should be allowed in honours events. Surely the point of the boards is to have them contested by the 'better players' in the club.

Pffft!

To a degree yet, what gets me is high cappers only need to have a medioka round to come in with mega points. im noticing the lower my hc gets the harder it is to stay within buffer for bounce games let alone comps.

I dont think the system is flowed as such, if we didnt have the HC system then half of the starters would quit as they wouldnt have a chance, maybe a shot allowance base on categories could be implied

Cat 1 - HC less 10%
Cat 2 - HC Less 20%
Cat 3 - HC less 30%
And so on

A cat1 player only has to have one mere of a hole and a card is shot, cat 3 or 4 however can be having a good game and still be in with a shot with 3 bad holes or sometimes more.

Felt a little embarrassed when I had a spell of 3 wins in 4 comps at the end of last year, although they were all team comps so not really all down to me.

Never felt embarrassed about winning an individual event, although I was once worried that I was going to be embarrassed about winning the following days comp so easily. I'd just played a practice round in my best ever score and was hitting the ball really well.

I needn't have worried! :o :o
