This months edition of Todays Golfer (Sorry GM for I have sinned) contains product reviews and ratings for current putters and wedges. These include options from all main manufacturers but no sign of Vokey or Scotty Cameron.

So, have they fallen out with Titleist/Acushnet?

Depends on the tests/reviews they are doing if it's its a straight forward review acushnet/titleist are happy for a review but they will not allow direct comparisons ie prov1 v penta v z star no no no not allowed!!!

I "acquired" a copy tomight and there is a big putter test and a similar one for wedges and I was surprised that Vokey and Camerons don't feature. Surely in the case of Vokey they are the market leader or very close and so not to feature one at all seems strange.

TG did a group test on irons last month and it was exactly the same, no sets from Titleist. Strange decision in my opinion as they produce some of the best gear on the market.

As far as I know, titleist have not supplied gear to tg for about 5 years. Nothing new here. I think because they promote custom fit, and tg want off the rack.

Not sure I agree. I haven't seen TG regularly for a while but they always use to feature in things like ball, putter and wedges tests before which are less likely to be custom fitted. With a big test of wedhes in particular I can't see why they wouldn't put forward a Vokey as they are the#1 wedge manufacturer. Won't it impact sales as casual readers will only go with what they've seen. No

as stated Becuase they only review items that manufacturers send them. If titty haven't sent them then they are not tested. Simples.

The difference with a GM test is they don't rate a product against something else.
With TG there's Gold, Silver, Bronze awards and the also-rans.... Titleist don't want to run the risk of coming below another product purely because the product is not suited for the tester....

It shows how tight TG are that they can't go out and buy a Vokey "off the rack" to test.

I was reading the latest issue and honestly don't think I can trust the reviews. Bit suspisious about the PING thing. Ping win gold across the board for putters and then the big competition/promo a few pages later. Just seemed a little sus.

I was thinking exactly the same Bob,they have really lost a lot of credibility in the reviews! Ping making the best blade, mid mallet, and full mallet putters in the world? Hmmmm, methinks a few on the tour would disagree?

Was the test not done with normal people with a range of handicaps then? The people on tour will give the thumbs up to whomever pays the most money in general...

Having participated in TG's consumer testing, I can honestly say its straight as you see. I was asked to leave all pre conceptions at the door, all brand alliances at the door and just simply hit a ball, they measure distance and dispersion, then as a consumer rated the club on looks, feel etc etc... All of these points from six testers added up etc, and an overall winner sought. I imagine the putter test would have been the same format.

Why dont you email David conner the equipment editor of TG and ask to be added to the next lot of testing? He is a thoroughly nice chap and you can then see for yourself? I can mail you his address if you want it... It's a fun experience! You don't get anything from it, bar maybe a polo shirt, so while not like the GM testing with AG for example, you don't get a free shiny, but it's fun all the same, and also cool to show your mates your ugly mug in a mag... I give them a little more credit...

Fair play to you Rooter,I would love to be on a testing panel! Please feel free to PM me details.I think that the thing with putters is that the tour guys will not play what pays the best but instead use the club that feels better no? I still think that all three categories having the same winner is a bit odd!

You have PM!

One thing though, I do think utters are more subjective than drivers for example. A driver is simple, how far did it go and what was the dispersion like? Putters are all about feel, they should have noted and shown what was already in people bags... I personally have never tried a ping putter, I am not old enough....
