Update: Titleist day at Silvermere GC - Thursday February 19th

I just heard from Jake that I made it in (thank you Jake).

I can't make the game in the morning but will get there a bit early and have a warm up, prob get there for half 11 ish I suppose. Will try grab a cheeky club sandwich from the bar at some point as the food is good at Silvermere!

I'll bring my flightscope with me, so by all means come on over is you see me and say hi.

I can feel my credit card shaking at the thought of "upgrades"!

The Range? you don't warm up.

Don't worry about what you wear for the photos mate all the ugly ones go at the back.:D
I will have nothing else to do though! I can't manage my arrival time as well as I do at T&P so will have to be early! By over 2 hours.

Just wanted to say a massive thanks to GM Titleist and Silvermere for today. Had a great time. Shame the weather got in the way of fully trying the Scottys but didn't really matter.

The 2015 Titleist range is fantastic. I have no Titleist clubs in my bag at the minute but after today I want a D3 driver, 915f fairway a set of 714cb and a Vokey gap wedge :-) so yah fair to say I was impressed.

One quick question. Did anyone get alignment sticks in their goody bag? I saw the GM tweet when I got home that showed them but I didn't see any there?

Thanks again (although my shopping list has really upset the wife, haha)

Yeah the sticks were back in the putter demo area/briefing room, the nice chaps from Titleist were handing them out as we were leaving.

I echo your comments about the gear, a great line up for 2015. I was never in much doubt that my next iron purchase was going to be another set of Titleist irons. This was reinforced after hitting a serious amount of balls with the AP2 714 irons, even better than my current , older AP2's. I also spent a lot of time hitting the 915 5W and was impressed with it. I'm hard to please when it comes to fairway woods I must be honest. I took my 2007 TM Burner reference club to the testing area to see how it compared. I couldnt tell any difference in distance, the murky weather and elevated driving range made it difficult to tell. However, I did find the 915 fairway easy to hit, like I had owned the club for years which is a good sign of its forgiveness. Need to test again out on the course on a warm sunny day but its definitely on my radar now.

The guys from Titleist were first class. We were split into 2 groups, those that had already played or warmed up on the range before the session started went to test the clubs on the range. The rest (and latecomers) stayed behind and there was a very interesting powerpoint on the history of Titleist, the new Pro V1 2015 balls, ball fitting, Scotty Cameron Putter range ie GoLo etc. We also spent a lot of time testing the whole Scotty range of putters in the same room. After about 1 hr or so we swapped places with the group up on the range.

The goodie bag consisted of some Titleist literature, a dozen Pro V1/V1x balls, a cap (colour of our choosing), alignment sticks, a cool looking Titleist keyring (is this made of the same material from inside a Pro V1 ball I wonder?) , a practice putting target and a Iphone case.

Thanks to Mike and Jake for making it a great day.

Thanks to GM, Titleist and Silvermere for a great afternoon.

I loved the 712u and am seriously thinking of treating myself to one as its stupidly easy to use!

I missed out on the alignment sticks but cant complain considering what was in the goody bag!

Lastly it was great to meet other forumers and I look forward to playing on some of the meets during the year

Echo these sentiments. A cracking day and the Titleist guys were first class.

I tried the AP1 and AP2 irons and was surprised at how good the AP 1 felt. As a die hard Mizuno/forged fan that was an eye opener.

Agree with Dando about the 712u. What a club. Looks like blade (almost!); flies like a hybrid.

Also tried the Vokey SM5 wedge and 915 hybrid both of which were fabulous; 915H 2 went like a rocket.

Thanks to Titleist and of course GM for giving us forummers the chance to take part.

Turned up at 12.45 to find the guys from Golf Monthly, Titleist and a few of the usual suspects along with some new faces in a suite off the main bar at Silvermere, with tea, coffee & danish pastries waiting for us. Once we were all there we were split into 2 groups; the others were taken off to the range whilst we were talked through the afternoon's programme and split into two groups. The group I was with was first shown a presentation relating to Titleist's history and how Phil Young decided after x-raying golf balls that it was about time some one started making a better job of doing it, and that he should be that someone. This led us through to the Pro v1 and Pro v1x of today, with a discussion of their relative merits and the manufacturing and quality control process. We were free to ask questions and did; why doesn't Titleist use ball speed fitting like other manufacturers and what have Titleist done to stop their Pro v1's yellowing (added sunblock to the Urethane!) amongst them. The guys answering did so honestly and openly, but most impressive was the fact they did so without being critical of their rivals' products.

From there the presentation moved on to Scotty Cameron putters and the new ranges and the inserts, again with questions being encouraged and openly answered. And with that done, we were free to get our hands on the goods. We were free to take them out to the putting green or stay in the suite and use the carpet. It's the first time I've tried Silvermere's artificial putting green, and it will be the last. I've never seen so many putts go out of bounds! :o There were a number of new putters and I was particularly keen to try the counterbalanced ones; as a user of one (Yes Victoria 2 with the Stealex shaft) I wondered what the SC take would be. The counterbalance was provided by a long grip with a 50g weight in it, which seemed light in comparison to my own. The shafts were also longer than standard which is something I'm not so keen on, but the Newport 2 version did feel quite nice. The Selects are a little firm for my liking and the Futura a little ugly, so that left the GoLo with the insert; rather than just let the insert into the face, it continues to the bottom edge & forms the soleplate. Greater perimeter weighting and a very nice feel to it. If I was looking then that would be my choice. At this point I then did the ball fitting; the recommendation was either Pro v1 or Pro v1x. Tell you what, we'll give you have a dozen of each, hit them alongside each other at the course & see which suits you better. Put your name on a goody bag sir, put your balls in, chose your cap & T-shirt size & pick it all up later. Thank you very much indeed Titleist.

Then it was off to the range. We were free hand to choose any of the clubs there, and they were all there. Titleist provided the fitters and we got about 20 to 30 minutes each with them. I warmed up with the irons. As beautiful as the MB's and CB's are & feel, I need more help than they provide. I was particularly taken with the AP1; very forgiving with a nice flight & feel with the True Temper XP95 shaft. I did slightly prefer the look of the AP2 head with less offset; maybe that would be the one with the XP95 shaft. I was then joined by David who was doing my fit; what did I want to look at? Drivers please. We started with me using my own to provide a baseline; a Benross Hot Speed 2, 12 degree regular shaft. David set up the electrickery, watched me hit a few and then brought up the first contender. Half a dozen with that to compare against mine, tweak and try again. At the end the verdict was; don't change! There was slight improvement in dispersion over mine but minimal distance increase - 2 yards. I have to say that I prefer the matt finish of the Benross, but the feel and sound of the Titleist I would be happy to trade up to. David looked slightly disappointed that he couldn't achieve much improvement over my driver, but also wasn't a man to be beaten; how about a 3 wood? Again, I hit mine for the baseline, and then a 915 3 wood appeared. Wow! Using the info that he'd picked up from the driver figures, the first time fit with the 3 wood yielded a 10 yard increase on best results and a 15 yard increase on average, again with a much more solid sound and feel. Looks like I might be spending some money.

Many thanks to MikeH & GM for the opportunity, Titleist for a very well run and informative day and a fantastic goody bag and particularly David for a very good & relaxed fit.

Great opportunity and a great day. Thanks to all @ GM, Titleist Europe and Silvermere GC.
What I learnt:
1 + 1X compression 90 & 100 respectively
distance difference between Titleists longest and shortest ball is 4 yards
New Scotty putters are very cool, and new insert isn't at all "clicky"
I am more suited to a 1X than a 1
Clubs
All the irons are nice!
AP1s offered solid strike but I just didn't like the chunky top line
AP2s were very very solid
CBs look great and were a lot more forgiving than I would have thought
MBs look stunning, and although obviously very unforgiving, never felt harsh
I would love to get properly fitted for the CBs!
Never got to hit a wedge, my loss they looked stunning
915 D2-massive improvement on my current driver
148 ball speed, 240ish carry, 16 deg launch but 3500 spin with my current driver (10.5 stiff)
145/245/16ish/2500 with a 915 D2 10.5 stiff
147/250+/16ish/2000 rpm with a Diamana S+ shaft and 8.75 deg- and a lot more forgiving on off centre hits whit a couple that were "necked" traveling as far as my old driver.
A great day, and a pleasure to meet a very friendly bunch of forumers, as a new guy I was a little nervous

Opened my eyes

Brilliant day. Started off perfectly with a very enjoyable round in excellent company - shame the course was suffering a bit but would like to go back and play it in the summer.

And then the highlight testing the new Titleist range. Only 2 words from me - absolute quality. From drivers right the way through to the new Pro V's. Could have quite easily ordered everything, but very keen on the 915D2 and new Scotty Cameron's! Booking a custom fit for the 915 very soon I would expect - didn't think I would change from Taylormade, but the numbers and consistency of the strike and flight are just too good not to!

RickG was right - now I can swing the club past my belly I seem to be hitting the ball further............:swing::thup:

Huge thanks to GM and Titleist for the opportunity.

Only just stepped in the door.

What a real eye-opener day! Never thought that the CB's would be so forgiving and just as easy to hit as my current AP2's! Now need to convince the better half that I need new clubs.....

Huge thanks to GM and Titleist for a truly memorable event!

I've been awake for 34 hours, just got back and Liverpool were on. I might elaborate tomorrow ;)

Had a Great day - pity about the drive home - should of been 1.20hr took me 2.50hr
Currently sat at work in my Titleist t-shirt work colleagues taking the mick
Loved the counterbalanced putters - I too putted into shrubbery numerous times
The drivers performed well but not necessarily any better than my current yonex driver. However they did seem a lot more forgiving than previous Titleist drivers that I have tried.
Hit the AP1's way better than my current irons - looked and felt fantastic - I think they were slightly shorter than my Burner 2.0's but that's is to be expected with the jacked up lofts on the burners
However the standout club for me were the hybrids absolutely adored them. I haven't hit a decent hybrid shot with current mizuno's for ages with the 915's I barely hit a bad shot - the 2 was going almost as far as my driver loved it.

Cheers to GM and Titleist for a great day !!!!
