Hi. I have a match tomorrow and was just checking the handicaps (foursomes). One of my opponents played in a mixed comp yesterday and will go up .1 and sitting on .4 so it will be a shot extra. The comp has been processed but as the mens and ladies handicaps are held separately the ladies haven't yet been adjusted. I assume this won't happen until the ladies handicap secretary processes her side of the comp.

As there is a published CSS can the player adjust their handicap up or do they have to wait until it is officially processed?

Thanks

PS. The extra shot would indeed result in an extra shot in the match so it could be important :-)

I think you can only self adjust down, not up.

That is true but just not sure as a CSS has been published whether she'd be able to refer to that...just preparing myself for the morning. Won't be at all surprised if there is a big debate (aka argument) before we even start!

Amanda, just a question. Has the women's CSS been published? Might be different from the men's one....

No. Not sure how it works as all the results are in the men's, including the women's but their "new handicap" is blank...will there be a separate CSS for the women?

Edit - I assume an adjustment was made and all played off the men's SI/SSS

Edit again - I see from Congu that the adjustment is for Competition Results only so assume a separate CSS for handicaps is calculated??

It has to be processed by her home club first before she can play off a higher h/c.
Its happened to me a few times because our h/c secretary hasn't put it through even though its in the system. I had to play of the existing low h/c.
She could ask the office to process it if the h/c secretary is unavailable.

Whenever I've played in a "mixed" medal. i.e. men and women competing together in individual strokeplay, (assuming that's like the comp you describe) a separate CSS has been calculated for each gender.

Unfortunately, that's just how it worked at one club and I can't direct you to any rules or regulations on the subject.

That is indeed the comp format (although Stableford - I know how you love that format) :-)

Jim (Rosecott) will hopefully be along soon to advise.

We had a bit of Hoo Ha about this the other week, before our final match in the Moray and Nairn League. you can adjust your handicap down, but not up.

Results were not published from the medal the day before and the guy had to play from the lower handicap, despite knowing full well he would be up by monday when the handicap sec published the results.

Oh right, sorry, I thought we were discussing golf! ;)

:) I used to think it was easier. Then decided it wasn't as in the end it's the same for handicap purposes. Then thought it was as a putt for a point can be rammed home without a care about one back if it missed...then thought again as the lower I've got the clearer it is whether I've played a given hole to handicap - would much prefer gross less handicap equals result...if that makes sense?! Saying 4 for "whatever" just highlights whether whatever is good or not!

No self adjustment up.

Results/changes have to be published before upward change.

If (Ladies) CSS is published, then the changes will also have been done. So looks like the Ladies may not have been done yet. Remember that if it's through HDID, then actual results may have been published at the Club! HDID simply makes the info available on the net!

Check the Noticeboard and agree the numbers before you start!

Just checked the last mixed medal and there were 2 separate CSS for Ladies and Men...

At least I have my facts when required but it won't be pretty!

lol, I sort of follow you... almost! :)

I usually just try and get in the hole for the least shots..... Had an 8 and a 9 yesterday though so might try stableford....

No need - Foxy has already spoken.

Patrick posted it clearly enough before that :)

This happens all the time and shouldn't cause any issues at all, and 'knowing CSS' is irrelevant to handicap increase situations.

If the player claims a higher handicap than they are entitled too, make sure you make a valid claim!

So to clarify...

Mixed Comps result in 2 separate CSS and adjustments are only for competition purposes NOT handicap?

I'll check the list on the board before we play rather than rely on HDID as not all our results get posted to there for some reason.

Forearmed and all that...already thought it might be an "atmospheric" match but could be even more so!

PS Aware of the not adjusting up but not sure when it's mixed how it works IF the comp is published...
