I would hope to play better than my handicap in 1 out of 3 competitions hopefully playing to buffer in the other two. I can deal with the few 0.1 increases but obviously like to minimise them.

I am a typical can't play with a card in the hand player and would expect to play at least around my handicap in 90% of bounce games.

Oh dear.

So which of the following statements is true........

1) My expectations are unrealistic
2) My handicap is too high
3) I'm a bandit
4) All of the above

So you hope to never have a round worse than your HC ?!

What HC are you currently

I am an improving 11.4. I hope to reduce the 0.1s I do have, I don't think I would go any great length of time without one but I can comfortably shoot in the 70s. I therefore hope to reduce my handicap and once I get myself down I am sure that the increases will come (more so than currently). I never said I never play worse than my handicap, I said I hope not to.

I have a handicap of 11 but really I play to around a 6. It's about reducing the handicap closer to that number and then having more 'poor' rounds against my handicap whereas currently, playing poor would keep me in buffer.

My handicap is too high. Recently returning to golf and putting cards in ASAP gave me a higher starting point than I would have liked/ can play to. As I've played more over the last 5 months this came down but I still see myself as improving.

There is nothing wrong with targetting good scores and more consistent performances. There is a side of it that you should remain realistic however with a playing standard around 5 shots less than my handicap that puts me 7 under my buffer. If I was worse than 13+ I would be very disappointed. Doesn't mean it won't happen. Just means I want to minimise this as much as I possibly can.

Sounds like you have a case to go to your handicap secretary and request a review!

Good luck getting your hcp down

last year i must have played to it or better more often than not, only went up 0,1 a handful of time in 30+ com round i played. Buffer mostly

May not be like that this year!!

Our Winter League scores are a good indicator.
Not qualifiers but played under the same comp conditions.
Current top 3 or 4 in each division have 5 scores in the 40's and high 30's from 10-15 rounds.
I have 3 of handicap or buffer from 14......
