Gravel path

See this link to some decisions. http://www.usga.org/Rule-Books/Rules-of-Golf/Decision-24/#d24-2b-3

Read them in sequence. You will see that the Nearest Point of Relief doe not mean that you will be able to play the ball and there is no such thing as the nearest point where you can play the :thup:ball. Asyou keep getting told, if the npr is not going to help, you must find another way to solve your problem. The relief you are getting is from the path and only from the path not from the trees. You don't get relief from trees. And then you are not guaranteed that relief from the path will give you a playable shot.

That's cool Rulefan and I'm happy with the answer... Like I've said I now have this rule in my armoury for future reference. I'd say its a scenario that alot of people would get caught out with and would get wrong and that's why I asked.

Thanks for your help

Gotta love NPR always gets confusing when the NPR isn't a nice place to play a shot.

From what I have read you had 3 realistic options because the NPR is in such an awkward place.

Play as it lies.

Take unplayable and take 2 club lengths.

Stroke and distance and replay the last shot again.

There was no (isn't a nice place to play the shot) about it, the drop was impossible as I would have still been on the path even if I did throw the ball into the hedge so I wouldn't have taken relief  There was no awkward place about it and I'm confused as to why people are not understanding it? Surely you have seen a hedge or a wall lining a path before with no ground in between?

And the 3 options you and many others have provided is all I was after.

Why would that be then? Would every amature golfer know what to do in this scenario? Does anyone who posts in the rules section of this forum need a class in rules fundamentals? World class players seek rules officials for basic rules very often Or if this is your attempt at humour and if so you must try harder mate

You have a thin skin davey. Your posts display a misunderstanding of some rules fundamentals that could have answered the question,. that's all. Sorry to offend, I won't answer any more of your questions. Have a nice day mate.

Is this the Le Mans thread? And Davey still showing remarkable stamina as he completes another lap of the circuit at 0332.

Davey, it's not an easy concept to grasp to begin with, the idea that the NPR might be in the middle of a hedge, a tree, a building, a bog and result in no practical shot being available to you, but that, if nothing else, is what you should take away from the answers to your question. Plus the best bit of practical advice that was given: never lift your ball till you have sussed out the options.

Nothing to do with skin mate just don't like people who make smart arsed comments over the internet!!!

It was intended to be a bit of friendly advice for a guy obviously interested in the rules. If you view that as smart arsed I repeat: you have a thin skin.

I'll make comments to people's face mate... Any I need to make to you? Come down and meet me if you like

I live further south

And you don't like smart comments on the forum but thickly disguised threats appears to be ok :mmm:

Might as well close it Twire

I've got my answer mate.

I don't think Phil is going to accept my invite as he will have to leave his keyboard at home...

There was no nearest point about it Phil as the path was still in play... Go read the thread.

Your nearest point meant you would have had to stand and drop in the hedge -

So you either take a penalty drop , play it as it lies or go back and play the shot again
