I think about Golf slightly less than sex, but cannot play as much as id like to, same as golf really.

This is due to a few reasons I work in Canary Wharf and do not get home till 7. Other reasons are having three children and a demanding missus (demanding as in fix this fix that, lets go shopping, drive kids to cinema etc etc)

so I try and get out once a weekend, and usually has to be early morning.

How often do you guys play and if you have family commitments, how accomodating is your other half ?

Dave

When my kids were young/small/demanding, I didnt play very regularly, merely when the opportunity arose.

In my opinion, your kids arent kids for that long, so make the most of it, and dont let the obsession of Golf overtake things.
My Father in law always had big regrets that Golf had made him a pain to live with when the kids were young, and he wished he'd been less obsessed with it, and more so with the kids.

Perhaps not what you wanted to hear, but .......bear it in mind.

Like most of the guys on here I have played sport forever, football then tennis followed by golf. My way was to play at a fixed day/time eg Sunday 8 am or whatever the sport I was playing demanded. I didnt go pubbing and clubbing and other than "my sport time" I would do whatever was needed in the family life and everything fitted in.

It was an arrangement that worked well and even though my son has left home now, HID knows that on Sunday morning 7am I am off to golf and I know that other days and times she will do her hobbies

It's all give and take

Macster too true, I have only recently rejoined a club after 5 years int he wilderness due to the kids being very young. They are getting older now and easier to play golf now, but so wished during the summer months that I was working locally!!.

one day soon hopefully

I have a wife and an 18 month old son. I manage to play 18 holes on Saturdays and 9 holes on Tuesdays. I also manage 1 range session a week, usually a Thursday and go in my dinner hour from work.

The wife doesn't mind too much as she prefers it to the 5 nights a week I would spend down the gym before our son was born.

Married, no kids, self employed and do some odd hours at times, so ge to play a lot more than the average Joe, probably playing 3 or 4 times a week at the moment and the missus doesnt bat an eyelid (its the 3 nights out at poker on top that dont always go down so well lol)

Turbowoowoo, have you thought about joining the golf lab in The Reebok Gym on the Wharf? Don't need to be a member of the gym to use it.

I get a corporate rate of £40 per month, which gives me 30 minutes per day one of 3 simulators with two cameras to record the swing and 1 free 30 minute lesson per month (£45 on its own!).

I've found it really useful, but you do need to be able to go most days, otherwise it's an expensive luxury.

Just a thought.

Back to the OP, I don't have kids, and am currently able to play a lot of golf, as my partner is working full time and doing an MBA! So until November, my plan is 30 minutes for 4 days at the Golf Lab, one or two nights at the short game area/putting green at Westerham, and at least 18 holes per week... sorted! :D

Generally only weekends for me. I certainly get to play once and then fit a second round in depending on plans etc. Not normally home from work until about 7.00 so do not play or practice in the week. Also, my course is not ideally suited to after work golf as is a loop of 18. You can cut out a few holes but I do not generally have the time as it would mean leaving my clubs on view in the car all day in the middle of Peterborough and I am not that stupid.

Usually play a couple of times a week, plus range. My 11 year old accompanies me most of the time, my wife sees it as father/ son bonding so is fine with it. Wife's a nurse and works odd shifts, a lot of weekends, so it's not uncommon for me and the boy to play Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (sometimes twice on Sunday as he has his lesson in the morning, I'll run round 9 holes whilst he does that, and then we'll do another 9 or 18 in the afternoon). Depending on wifey's shifts, we may only play 9 holes sometimes, but either way, have played a lot of golf this year so far.... :)

Can't play Mon, Wed or Thursday as they are Aikido nights......

Wife and a new baby here. I get to play when I like outside office hours, my wife does not care at all. Last year I was hitting golf balls in one form or another 5 out of 7 days.

This year if I rush home, grab the clubs and goto the club, by the time I get home the baby is asleep. I will then have not seen her all day apart from maybe 10 minuets in the morning and I just cant deal with that.

So in essence I do as I like and like the OP I think about golf 17 out of the 18 hours I am awake but my baby girl is WONDERFUL and I want to be around her so I guess I play 2 or 3 times a week.

I work Monday to Friday and every other weekend with my main job. Weekends I don't do main job I work Friday and Saturday night as a Door Supervisor(bouncer) at a club I don't get in until 4 in the morning and up again at 8 as my other half works days on the weekends I don't and I have the little lad. She gets home around 2 so I usually have a round on the Sunday afternoon and on only 8 hours sleep since the Friday morning.
I would love to play more. I do get 9 holes in some weeks after work or I have taken a few days off midweek to play but have now used up all my holidays.

Young daugher (just turned 2) so time with her is priority over everything else and often turn games down after work so I can spend some time with her.

Manage to play most weekends and try to get 9 holes in the week in aswell. Sometimes more, quite often less but in a few years time when the kids don't want anything to do with me I can play all I like!!

Chrisd pretty much sums it up for me too, kids long gone now and retirement beckons might even take HIDs to the pitch and put then so might end up playing more than the twice a week I play now. With a young family its difficult to balance your obsessions with your commitments and in the past I've been guilty of getting the balance wrong (don't go there)as you get older things tend to mellow out and conflicts with HIDs are, thankfuly, a thing of the past.

Engaged to long term partner, 8 month old daughter. Play Sat 7am home by 11am and play afterwork one or two nights a week. Start work at 6am so get to play at 3ish til 7pm then spend 30mins with the little one before bed time for her. My missus is grateful I took up golf as last year I was a season ticket holder for Chelsea and that really did take up days at a time. Love spending as much time with my daughter as possible so she does take priority over the golf.

My kids are grown up and the wife doesn't work, so I get to play as often as I like. The wife has the philosophy, of you pay your money get the most out of it.

Things might change when number two arrives but at the moment I have a routine early Saturday morning back by lunch and Thursday evening. I then practice on my lunch break the two days I work from home and do putting practice when it's the missus turn to put littl'un to bed. Golf is my only hobby and I don't go pubbing etc but I still get earache!!!!

I work in Canary Wharf and do not get home till 7.

You either start at 5am or live in Canary Wharf!! Getting home at 7 from that place means you've got a pucka job!!

I'm married with two young kids, two rabbits and a puppy so I can only play once a week.

I know it's rather selfish but I have to play some form of sport at least once a week. I've played sport all my life and I love it - pure and simple. I am also a stay at home Dad so for six days a week I see my kids all day so they've probably had enough of me anyway and are glad to wave me off for a day..

Because I only play once a week I never practice so I'm very philosophical about my game. If I play well - lovely jubbly. If I chop it round - there's always next Sunday. I put nothing into the game so it owes me nothing.

There's nothing more important than family!!

Married 14 years and child-free, hooray!. Both my wife and I are semi-retired so we can basically do what we like. It was actually my wife who suggested I took up golf again last year and she hasn't seen me since. I play five or six days a week but tend to avoid Saturdays. However, I keep being pestered by my local pay and play club to become a member and I am itching to get myself a proper CONGU handicap rather than my online effort, regardless of how accurate it is. That would definitely mean committing to Saturday playing. I'm sure my wife wouldn't mind but still can't help feeling a bit guilty.
