Golf Random Irritations

Went out to hit some balls today having had a lay off for a while. Started shanking it .. accurately off the hosel. I checked my stance moved the ball to the toe .. hit a few good ones but inconsistently. I basically burned through 30 balls trying to find the face. Eventually I stood the club up with sole flat and then all was right with the world. Why does this stuff happen ?!?

For 2nd time in two months my tee shot on our par 13th finished within one-handed tap-in distance of a hole-in-one. Back in Nov it was a ball width away - yesterday it was 6". Reasons to be cheerful, Par 3? (sorry - if you know you know). Of course. But in my quest for my first ever hole-in-one I might as well have missed the green...

The Tokomo Irons ad at the top of the page ( sometimes)
"The Fairway is Calling"........
Personally, there isn't a single hole on my course, that isn't a par 3, that I would take an iron off the tee....
Others may and that's cool
But I don't and I find it irritating that they didn't use "Green" instead of "Fairway "....

Haha, I'm the same - not a single par 4 at mine where I'm not taking a headcover off. Irons are for hitting greens!

We've a par 4 with split fairway that's a 6iron down the right side or driver down the left
Depends on tee marker, pin position and wind strength which club I'll use

Lots of fun

Played with a +4 handicapper last summer, he hit iron off most tees. I told him he was boring. To be fair his 4 iron was going 250 yards, as far as my driver.

I feel your pain! I had two near misses yesterday in the Wednesday Stableford, first one on the 5th, pitched 15 feet over the top of the flag and spun back to within 2 inches of the hole! Looked like a footprint prevented it from going in, it's uphill so we couldn't see.
Then 6 holes later on the 11th, I almost slam dunked a 7 iron, the ball pitching 6 inches to the left of the hole but spinning back to 3 feet away!
I think both will be good enough to take the NTP prize money, and also a few quid for 2 x 2's!
Hopefully a nice email will confirm it when I wake up after my night shift. 40 points will take some beating as well, finger crossed for a nice bump up for my Pro Shop account.
The quest for that illusive hole in one continues though, 35 years and counting.....

Heading to Portugal next Friday for 4 days with 7 friends.

It's been raining constantly for the past month or more and the forecast for next weekend isn't letting up.

Just been sent a video from Ombria which is 20km from where we're playing and the whole course is completely flooded.....
I’m sure it’ll change by then, even if it’s just showers and you end up tweaking your tee times to play at the best times. Fingers crossed for you.

So boring getting pars and lots of birdies. 😂

Quite. On a 400 yard par 4, I’m hitting driver 250 and then an 8 iron, whilst he is hitting 4 iron and a PW, so I did understand he was playing the percentages and we talked about it.

But it would have been more entertaining for me if he hit driver and left himself a flick with a wedge 🤣. He’d get more birdies, but also more bogeys. Obviously I do understand that he doesn’t play golf to entertain me, but if I was at his level I would probably be more aggressive in the monthly medal and save the conservative strategy for more important competitions.

Portugal is on the Atlantic coast. It gets more rain than Milton Keynes, and it’s mostly concentrated in the period from November to March. I know many people (including me) who have had wet golf holidays in the Algarve, you have to expect it at this time of year. Good luck with the weather, but don’t forget your waterproofs!

We are drowning around here. One course got 9 holes carry only for today, but another day of rain tomorrow. Might as well take my name off for Saturday now.....no chance of golf.

Yeah, distance is everything at all levels. One of the things that annoys me watching some YouTubers is when they claim to be off like 6 or something, when they're hitting tops and shanks and generally looking much worse than me. Then I see they're hitting driver 290 yards and it all makes sense. The game's so much easier.

I haven't played since Dec 27th. Our course has been closed every weekend since then, most days midweek as well. It is not a bad draining course, there has just been too much rain, relentless rain. The water table is so high. It's been closed all of this week, I expect it to stay close at the weekend based on the firecast for the rest of the week.
