Golf Random Irritations

We have set divisions and the prize money varies depending on entries in each.

PS - my post was a dig at all those who say lower handicap players don’t enter anymore
Yes I gathered that.👍

But they do at this time of year or they wouldn’t play.

Most play / practice after work but they can’t now if they do a day job.
So at the weekend to play you have to play in the comp at ours as all spaces are full.

102 entries in the Stableford today.
60 in Div 1 - up to 12
26 in Div 2 - 13 to 18
16 in Div 3 - 19 +...
Would it have made a big difference and balance it if they did

Div 1: up to 9
Div 2: 10 to 18 and then kept Div 3 as it is.

Would at least keep the single handicap players in same Div and extend div 2 to have a better range of handicap.

In response to the main post, it’s not black and white for me. Am I likely to spout off on Facebook etc if I wasn’t happy with something about the club where I was a member? No. I might moan about bunkers to my playing partners or in the bar, and if I felt strongly enough about it I’d maybe email the club or ask as question in the AGM.

But, I also wouldn’t be happy signing up to a club that wanted me to waive my right to moan on Facebook, because, well why do they want me to do that? What have they got to hide? What’s happened before to get to this point? And whilst I wouldn’t moan about little things like bunkers or the price of a pint, something might happen where I feel I need to vent online to warn others. Bullying, sexism or racism not being dealt with, for example (after going through the correct channels).

If it were a course I played as a one off and it was in terrible condition or staff were rude, then I’d say so in my review. But I’d also leave a good review if it was warranted.

If something serious happened within a golf club the first communication should be with who is running the club - committee or GM , then it if that doesn’t achieve the satisfactory result then it’s county and governing bodies

Going onto social media to highlight those sort of incidents can lead to whole load of trouble legally - there is enough examples of incidents where people have gone to social media

I know reviews should be taken with a grain of salt, but I still read them from time to time to form an opinion about whether the product being tested might interest me or not.

However, it irritates me every time when the first thing (!) reported is the looks (!!!) of a club !?! 😳

Why should I care about its looks!?! I am only interested in its performance, i.e., its function! 🤬 It may be ugly as hell if it performances well ! 👍

There's a reason why they say : „Form follows function.” 🤷🏽

A lot of people on here pick a ball on how it sounds so why wouldn't they pick a club that looks nice? :ROFLMAO: 🫢

Looks of a club is all about first impressions

If something suits your eye, it breeds confidence. Confidence in something is a great start. 😊

Looks in this context isnt irrelevant

I would say in any walk of life when making purchases looks are important with regards to initial interest. It tend to be what makes you want to pick a club up in the first place or look at a certain car that caught your eye. Yes you might rule something out based on how it performs after that initial interest but that comes with keeping an open mind.

Though I agree that looks are important initially, I remember the introduction of the Great Big Bertha and TaylorMade rescues - both of which came in for ridicule for their looks (bungalow on a stick etc.) and in the former's case its sound. However their performance soon made the detractors come to accept their looks when they had them in their bag.

I think that's a minority view, and most people go for looks first and performance later. Certainly that applies when choosing a partner :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
