Golf Random Irritations

The good news is there are some clubs with two courses that are more than happy to host them

We don’t host any county matches because the county manager in the past said our course wasn’t tough enough or long enough

So they can enjoy playing elsewhere and why the best player in the country moved his home club away from us to be an away player

We will look after our members - the ones that pay the bills , and most don’t give too hoots about the county and their self importance
Oh, so you haven’t read the terms of affiliation then.

A golf course on our mixed open rota not doing a mixed comp next year. Well they are but it's a team one and I don't know a couple that would fork out the dosh to play it. Also, I didn't know their individual prices and have just seen them. So that rules that out for me. Chasing the Yankee Dollar me thinks.

The finishing on our bunkers. For some reason we have opted to grow the grass on the edges of our bunkers

IMO it look scruffy but it leaves unplayable shots where the ball gets buried in grass just on the edge of the bunker

Left myself this beauty at the weekend.

I agree, it looks very scruffy to me and can't see the point of it really, doesn't need to be cut down to semi rough height but could be tidied up a bit, just makes it look like lazy greenkeeping, for me anyway

Think the idea is for the bunkers to have a more natural heathland look about them but imo would be better with heather on top

You appear to have sand in your bunker, how quaint.

Is it a light dusting or the quarter of an inch variety?

we had our bunkers re done a few years back , and they have this rubber crumb base which the water drains through, its a good idea. the only downer is that when the sand in the middle gets low you tend to bounce your club of the rubber into the ball and it will fly all over the shop.

Good point! Although, I think fairway bunkers should have less sand in them than greenside ones.

Newport is in the process off sorting out the bunkers....

Three greenside bunkers visible from the tee on one hole. Each is a completely different colour and plays quite differently. Looking forward to that changing.

What's with this desire for consistent nice bunkers?
They're supposed to be hazards.
If you don't go in them, doesn't matter what they're like.
