I've mentioned this before............Having your ball played by someone else on a different hole...probably.
Hit my drive on our 9th (our last)..a bit too left but should either be in the bunker or beyond it in the tree line....
There are players going down the 1st which runs alongside in the opposite direction.
There's a slight crest on our fairway so you can't normally see your ball land.
We get to the area and start loo,ING...not in the bunker so must be in the tree line....nowhere in sight....
CVG spots a ball 40 yards further down a d right of my line....maybe it hit a tree and bounced out like Fragger's would....
No, not mine...a Callaway but a Supersoft not a Chrome Tour X...
Then I realise what has likely happened...
The Old Boys comp was in full swing and the 3 ball on the first where part of it..
One of them drove a bit left off the 1st into the tree line....lost sight of the ball...walked up, found a Callaway and thought "that's mine" and played it...
His ball was on our fairway.....by the time this scenario clicked in it was way too late and I just finished there....it wouldn't have affected the score to any great extent...
JUST BLOODY ANNOYING!!!!!
Playing 11 my mate hits it down 12, we know where it is and set off after it, but a senile old codger beats us too it and stands guard over it as if it is the crown jewels. My mate asks him if that is his ball and without looking replies, yes. Not believing him but not wanting to end up with egg on his face he lets it go and has a look around for his ball.
Meanwhile, I watch the SOC hit the ball 100 yards down the fairway into the very light righthand rough, I then watch as he and his mates wander down the fairway, have a good look at the ball and then wander on, without playing it.
On our way up 12 I make a point of going up to the spot where the SOC left the ball and sure enough there is my mate's ball.
Ignorant doesn't really do it justice, but I can't repeat what was really said. I also can't tell you what he writes on his ball these days.
