Golf Random Irritations

We find it annoying enough visitors are allowed before 11am on weekdays but appreciate the club needs to make money

We don't appreciate opening up the tee times for 2 weeks time and finding a society from 0730-1400. That's a disgrace

They should have delayed them to 0900 and allowed members a chance to get out in the morning

Shotgun start or mahoosive society group?

Supposed to play this sunday and blew out yet again. no enthusiasm to play at all. seriously thinking of just packing in completely and selling all my gear
Do you know "why" you feel like that?

I'm getting bored with my current local club as I'm in need of a change. Everything is the same every week.

I'm playing an increasing number of away games and this is more fun by miles. I seriously thinking about joining somewhere cheap to keep my handicap, staying a country member at a couple of places, and jacking in the local £1450 pa altogether

Shotgun start or mahoosive society group?

Not sure. I've emailed the new golf operations manager let's see what he says

I asked the previous one to email out monthly bookings of societies to the members .. least they can do so I'll suggest to him

A marshall is going to txt me what's going on later and see if they can squeeze us out off the 10th

My mate can't play 2 days in a row because of these bookings. On the Tuesday they have 10-12 booked and he split shifts can only tee off 10-1030

And obviously Wednesday can't play now

That's poor imo

I love a cause though. Something to get my teeth into see if I can get some change at the club

Seems like shotgun start

Now not the reply I wanted from the GOM however he has offered to try and get me on the best course in the area that day as they owe us a million favours for when they got vandalised and we gave them freebies

Figures, shotguns have several advantages but one of the downsides is no one can get on the course even if it’s before the shotgun start-time

So the shotgun could be 9am start expecting to finish by 2.00, but no tee slots from 7.30 cos you’d still be on course when the group turn up on each tee
Shotgun really only worth it if its full field i.e 72'ish players

We have started allowing societies and other group bookings at prime weekend times and it’s very annoying.

Next Sunday there are slots closed for a ladies comp in the morning which is fair enough. Then in the afternoon the ladies scratch team has a block of times followed by a society. We can’t get in the course till after 3:30 and even then it will be likely be a long round.

Apparently it's the organisers day they host twice a year

Tbh it's one of them oh so these guys bring a society and block the course and we reward them by giving them a free day to block the course

Never great to see courses booked out for external visitors during prime slots

Is it a members course or proprietary courses

Anytime that’s done it just looking for the extra money

We have no societies at weekends

Agree and we are even more restrictive.

No visitors on Saturday and Members Guests only on Sundays.

I’ve been at my club for 36 years. Not much choice without a long commute to Bournemouth. If wasn’t for the opens, golf holidays and playing away for the club I would go insane playing only at the same course.

I assume they bring a decent wedge to the club to get that kind of gratuity/kickback (and I don't mean a vokey)

Societies days are so overpriced..it seems people who arrange them don't mind overpaying ..

We've got some seniors who've been there similar and longer, who NEVER play anywhere else.

It's their choice, can see it myself.

Depends what you want from your golf.

I have played for over 50 years and in that time have visited over 200 courses both in the UK and overseas and there were no more than a handful that I didn't enjoy.

Been at my present Club 44 years.

But nowadays I am more than happy to just potter around playing the same old course with the same few other old gits with whom I have shared golfing times for a good many of those years.

But perhaps not in the winter these days.

I love playing other courses but I never get bored with my own. Occasionally the condition of the course makes me want to seek elsewhere but that's the weather in the west of Scotland.

We are lucky to have some interesting nad varied recipricals around the world. Always a godesend in Royal Ascot week as access is a nightmare so a lot of members plan trips away
