Literally never heard anyone say that!?!The saying "he held some great putts".
Held is the past tense of to hold not holed.

Ahh.. Rick Shiels is the worst for this, he says it all the time and I always wondered why. Your explanation has actually made me feel better. The saying "he held some great putts".

Maybe it's more of a thing here in Ireland but it irritates me for some reason without being a massive big deal.Literally never heard anyone say that!?!
And Matt Fryer, maybe they learnt it off each other.Shiels says it all the time.
You need to find the spot in the arm where the pain is & massage it quite hard with 2 fingers several times a day for about 10 seconds to try & break up the inflammation - if you are doing it properly, it will hurt.Golfers elbow/tendonitis in my right arm. I have been managing it ok for a couple of months but it has gotten to the stage when I need to rest it. Consequently I have withdrawn from the next few club competitions. Looks like my clubs could be stowed away for the next few months.![]()
36 holes at Purdis Heath? You have my admiration. 18 is a good walk.Receiving a phone call from the wife whilst I am out asking if I'm away at all during June...cant think of anything that is taking me away so i tell her that there is nothing on. Then asked if I can take some relatives to Stansted on the 12th and pick them up again on the 19th...no problem I say....its not likely to clash with anything that cant be moved.
Get home, consult my diary and find that on the 12th I'm supposed to be playing a 36 hole open at Purdis Heath, and on the 19th I'm supposed to be playing a Seniors county club knockout match at Felixstowe Ferry!!!![]()
Life can be such a bummerPlaying today in trousers as it is only going to be 20C......have not played in trousers since October![]()
4 Ball at Dunbar a couple of days ago, all single h'caps but a couple are losing a bit length due to advancing years so when they're involved we just play off the yellow forward tees, still good fun with the course in great nick, playing behind another 4 ball 2 of whom couldn't reach some of the fairways from the white back tees they seem to have to play off, at least we had a good laugh, why do they do it, surely they could have a much more enjoyable game if they played off the yellows, is it an ego thing, they did glower at us a couple of times when we were trying our best to stifle our laughs![]()
Yeah happens a lot at our place too, not just those you mention but lots of members too, just feel that a lot of them would have a much more enjoyable game playing off tees that more suited their ability, in our 4 ball the highest hi was around 5.4 and we had a great game off the front tees, playing from the back would have taken 2 of the 4 out of around 4 or 5 holes due to their length and the stiffish breezeI still get irked watching tourists/visitors/newer players choosing to play off the comp tees when they clearly don't have the driver distance, it happens every week... & we've 5 tee options to choose from!
We don't put out our back tee markers. Some members occasionally play from the permanent markers.I still get irked watching tourists/visitors/newer players choosing to play off the comp tees when they clearly don't have the driver distance, it happens every week... & we've 5 tee options to choose from!
Depends on the course length and what I am allowed to play off. Around 6,600 is plenty for me to be getting on with. Anything longer than that and I'd be moving to the tees nearer 6,600 or shorterWe don't put out our back tee markers. Some members occasionally play from the permanent markers.
I have heard that some visitors like to play courses from the maximum length because they get to hit more shots during their round, obviously not interested in score, just lessening their cost/stroke.

I would have been calling it on the course as soon as the score had been read out incorrectlyPlayed in a match today. Our Vet A v Vets B league game. Wandering up the 16th I casually asked my partner what the scores was, I was sort of making conversation as I knew we were one up. "One down" he replied. Stunned. Totally stunned. Long story short, both players with cards keeping score had marked the 5th incorrectly, which came up in the club house as they were discussing the result, as you do, so I questioned it. They both backed each other up as one said, "I have it marked the same". This does not make it right!!!!!! No I didn't push it cos the time for questioning is after the hole. Still, I know what happened, even if my partners recollection was complete conkers. LOL .....not.
Don't worry, I'm sure there's a much more likely scenario at play here than CF having it right and everyone else getting it wrong...I would have been calling it on the course as soon as the score had been read out incorrectly
