Golf Random Irritations

Players who damage the hole and do not repair it before leaving the green.

Most noticeable is the players who use the thing on the end of the putter and lean the shaft on the edge of the hole.
Most of those attachments require a straight downwards pressure to grip the ball and leaning the shaft against the lip prevents that.

I, therefore, wonder if it is that which is causing the damage.

Mental, I spent over a decade with a severe slice and a handicap that gave me two shots on some holes
Today I broke 80 for the 2nd time this year while working against a draw

Daft game
The lessons that started last year have turned my drive from a fade to a draw. My bad shot is now an over strong draw/high hook but handicap is reducing. Got to keep that club face square at impact!

I've started using one of those and agree with your summary of how to use them. Neither I nor my pp who has one come close to the edge.

I've noticed two things that do damage the edge. One, the person who doesn't take the flag out when they get their ball. The gap between ball and flag is too tight, causing issues. Secondly, we have just had new flags and they are thick, too thick imo. If the flags were not fully centred and fitted the ball would trap against the side and not drop. When the ball was removed that would cause an indent.

The ball barely gets to the bottom of the cup with our flags in place. I’d never put anything more than a gimme with it in but maybe that the plan 😉

Two random irritations this week.

Unprepared pitch marks right next to the hole.

People who walk past the rake to take their shot in the bunker and still don’t use it! 🤬

Our Easter medal comp running over 3 days, entered and played Friday and was 2 over handicap. Played today 3 under handicap. At least I’d registered it as a GP round.

I used to have a mate that did it all the time. I spoke to him on many occasions but he said he did not do it. No damage before he retrieved his ball but damage afterwards.

Playing in a tie today behind a four ball which kept us waiting a little but they weren't particularly slow , no complaints it's peak Sunday traffic, but the group behind us almost hit us twice with balls from the tee.

In my experience most of such damage is created by players removing and replacing the flag stick.

Golfers elbow/tendonitis in my right arm. I have been managing it ok for a couple of months but it has gotten to the stage when I need to rest it. Consequently I have withdrawn from the next few club competitions. Looks like my clubs could be stowed away for the next few months. 😢

I've played a course surrounded by waste areas like that where you had to drive through them. No rakes either

Getting up, getting to the club and feeling absolutely awful. Hit a few balls and decided I wasn't well enough to play. Good decision as it turned out as now feeling nauseous and under the weather. I thought I had got rid of the bug I had but perhaps not

Having to declare myself unfit for a league game away at Parkstone in a few weeks because of the above.

That's sad. I missed a whole summer several years ago through sciatica and so frustrating watching my friends in all the big comps and matches. I did go up to the club to at least feel part of things but it was so hard not even being able to putt. Get well soon
