Got a match which needs to be played this month.

Contacted our opponents and suggested a few dates. They came back saying they couldn’t make any of them due to holidays. They suggested one date, which is the same day as a club competition we are already committed to. I went back with a few more potential dates, they refused them citing “other commitments “. I had a look on BRS, and they are down to play social games with their mates on those days.

I asked them to suggest another date, they came back with the same date we had already told them we couldn’t do.

No extensions allowed, so looks like a stalemate. I’ve suggested one final possible date. If they can’t do that, I’ll ask them to withdraw and let us proceed. I’m sure that will go down like a lead balloon.

I’d forgotten what a hassle knockout comps can be.

Had this a few times.

I’m convinced some try to make it difficult in the hope of getting free pass into the next round.

Being slightly ageist. I’ve only ever had this problem from older people. I presume they have a set routine for when they play and can’t comprehend playing outside those times.

It is somewhat ironic that those who no longer work, and have all the time in the world, are the ones who say “sorry, I only play on Monday and Wednesday mornings “ 😁

I always make sure I have screenshots of the conversation so I can show that to the committee/tournament organiser, giving evidence that they were the obstructive ones and we suggested plenty of dates.
 
My next round in the club summer KO is against a 14 handicapper. Not many years ago he was off about 5 and played occasionally in the scratch team. He then stopped playing for a few years but is now back playing regularly. He’s one of those that gets a top 3 placing in 4BBB comps now with mid 40 points scores.

I’ll be giving 13 shots so probably not going to end well for me unless I have a blinder.

I've had this situation where they said they can't play but are down to play social golf with their friends.

You have every right to complain to the club about this as it is totally unreasonable using this as a reason for being unavailable to play a match.

Have had radio silence from them for the last 24 hours after I suggested another couple of dates. If I get nothing back today, I'll be contacting them to suggest they cancel their social golf. If they refuse or don't respond, I'll be contacting the club.

Part of me thinks it's really not worth the hassle, but the other part of me won't let them get away with silly games.
 
I think people can be blind to their selfishness. Either ask to play on the date they are down for social golf. Or if you don't like confrontation point this out to the club.

For balance, the only problem I had was with a 30something who only had one available date then didn't bother to turn up.

Remember you can play your match same day and alongside the club comp day

Not great but doable
