Golf Random Irritations

We allow the changing of shoes in the car park, most people do it anyway. Just checked the dress code for our club, polo's have to be tucked in, no cargo shorts, trousers or denim and caps have to be worn peak forward. We are a regular members club and I don't think the level of enforcement is very high.
I guess some of you wouldn't want to play our course!
Depends how good the course is.
As a comparison, if a restaurant enforced a jacket and tie dress code I might go but it would have to be truly exceptional for me to be compelled to wear something I wouldn’t necessarily normally want to.
It’s the club’s rules, I have no problem with that, however I reserve the right to judge them on it and express my opinion on them (not that they should care in the slightest about that).

We specifically don't have a dress code.
I don't usually have a problem adhering to most clubs that do.
There are very few that are onerous.
Very occasionally it's jacket and tie, but usually for courses worth playing.
The green fees are generally more of a hassle than the dress code.

My rule for the last 30 years….

For me to wear a tie for you, you need to be getting married, potentially offering me a job, or dead. If you’re not one of those 3 then get lost 😝.

Each to their own and I don't usually wear a tie and I'm certainly not a smart dresser generally.
But if the golf course is a good one I am certainly happy to bung on a tie if it keeps others happy.

Untucked shirts.
Played behind a fourball last night, all maybe mid 20’s/30, I wouldn’t even say new to the game as all looked to hit a decent ball, electric trolleys, tour bags etc. Just really struck me as these new sort of youtubey type of golfer, shirts all untucked, hats backwards, maybe a bit unfair or a bit of a generalisation there as I do watch a lot of the new YT/media golf stuff, quite like hoodies, joggers, getting away from the old expectations dress wise and getting more young ones into the game. But my god just tuck your shirt in and put your hat round the right way. Looks horrendous.
To you it might look horrendous. Am I allowed to say “get a life” on here?

August Sunday Medal tomorrow…Bank Holiday weekend so a reduced size field as might be expected. But of 99 playing only two have a HI of greater than 20.0. Don’t get it. Don’t our higher HI members want to get their handicap down? Hmmm…or maybe higher HI members aren’t interested in playing in Medals…pity…🤔

Think some context is needed, what’s the average age of those with that HI! Are they of parent age so could be spending time with family over the bank holiday weekend and last before kids return to school.

How many normally play on a Sunday, what’s the normal rate of this HI playing in medals at other times of the year that’s not in the holidays.

Or is it they aren’t as competitive as others with lower handicaps , does the club do its medals in divisions for handicap range or is it all in one large comp. Or lastly do they feel intimidated by lower players telling them they should be playing more comps to get their handicaps lower rather than letting them focus on just enjoying and playing the game at their own level.

Just playing devils advocate but there are so many more reasons than just not wanting to lower a handicap for people not playing.

At least this means we won’t have to read about you moaning that high handicap bandit has won the medal 😂

Indeed - why I suggested they simply might not be interested in playing a Sunday Medal.

Note…I posted under the ‘Irritations’ thread as there isn’t a ‘Just Curious’ one…

Indeed maybe better under ‘Gladdens the Heart’ with members choosing to spend time with family rather than on the golf course with their mates.😘

I don’t, as in general at my place they don’t. 😀

And of course, without checking, this might be consistent with all medals - 20+ handicappers might not be that enthusiastic for medals.

It was that part there that I think meant the post required context. Because that seems more condescending than it does curious. Though I’ll give it to you, you did caveat by adding maybe they aren’t interested.

But perhaps that’s something for the club could look into. Poll the HI players as to why they don’t play and what can be done to entice them. The club may find out some interesting answers perhaps about culture, or lack of what they’re offering these members to get them to play. Plus if they can get them into the medals that’s a revenue increase as well. Either way be a positive step for the club to get more people involved. Food for thought 🤔..

Absolutely…in posting I was as much wondering if what I see is pretty normal across golf clubs the country over. Saturday medals are normally busier…maybe it’s just a Sunday Medal thing (we hold them at least two weeks apart).

High handicappers are far more likely to have huge blow-up holes, meaning they don't really have much chance of winning medals.
If they want to put in a card to try and get their handicap down, may as well just do a general play one and save themselves the competition entry fee.
