Years ago, I used to wear a golf glove, as I guess, most still do.

Then one day, while watching Fred Couples win again, and noticing he didnt wear a glove, I thought to hell with it, I arent wasting any more dosh on those, if he can play without then so can I.

I can honestly say that it didnt make a scrap of difference to me, apart from perhaps giving me more feel if anything.

Anyone else not wear one ?

Dont wear one when chipping and putting but couldn't think of playing a full game without one. Would feel too strange for me.

I always wear one. The hands are the only contact we have with a club and I need to know especially in the wet or in the heat of summer than my grip isn't going to slip as I swing. I will take it off for chips and putts where feel is more important and the swing is much shorter.

I tried it a long time ago but had to go back to playing with a glove. It's an interesting question. Why the h*** do we spend money on them? Are they really essential?

I get blisters if I don't wear one for a whole round but I do remove it for chipping and putting. Probably only go through 2 a year though so I think they're worth the money. Couldn't imagine hitting 200 balls up at the range without one.

The first time i ever played I didn't use a glove and got several blisters, so I've used one ever since. I guess if you play regularly enough your hands probably get used to it and toughen up a bit, but since I don't get to play all that often I think the benefits outweigh the fairly low cost.

Blisters ????

Good god, how hard do you hold the club ?? In a full round, you probably only play 36-40 'full' shots, surely not enough to get blisters ?!

I dont play that often, maybe once a week in summer, and twice a month in winter, if that, and have never in the last 15yrs got blisters.

Not blisters on the inside of the fingers, Chris. Usually on my right pinkie, near the end knuckle where it overlaps on the grip. If I get one I'm goosed for playing for a day or two so don't play without one anymore, especially at the range when you're hitting more balls in a short space of time.

Got my first glove one christmas when i was a lad. After three months play it had a hole in it. Went to by another and found it would be a whole weeks paper money. Never worn one since.

Totally agree that they are a waste of money

Dont ware a glove for anything below 100 yards usually unless its a full shot.

I think I would tend to grip the club harder causing my muscles to tense up and disrupt my swing. We all know about relaxed muscles.

Craig (Tincup) doesn't ware one, I asked him why on sat, he told me he didn't want to pay for them when he was younger and he just never needed one, and he didn't, he played really well without one.

Wear one in the summer, but take it off in between shots and never wear it for chipping and putting. There is a noticeable difference in grip if you have a new glove. Your grips will stay cleaner too by not clogging up with sweat and crap from your bare hands.

I don't wear one in the winter because I can't be arsed with taking it on & off when all i want to do is stuff my hands back in pockets or Mitts to get warm again.

Can I just ask when people tend to replace a glove? I used to replace my when they got slightly baggy so it would be pretty much once a month.

Now I buy a size to small and it streches to fit my hand but goes no bigger, I have a snug fit untill the glove is pretty much worn right through, now I could prob get away with 4 a year maybe, prob less.

Defo wear one, unless im - 50 yards to the pin. Change them every month as I have a bad habit of cleaning the club face with my hand before a shot to check the grooves are clean, which really buggers them up. Also I re-grip the club at the top which leaves a big hole at the bottom of my palm.

I'm the same as smiffy, I put my glove on, on the 1st and it comes off on the 18th. I'm quite paticular with what glove I wear though, it has to be a tight fitting titleist perma soft and as soon as it goes loose I have to have a new one. I probably get about 6-8 rounds of golf from it.

I can't be bothered taking it off, putting it back on, taking it off etc etc.

Mine stays on all the way round unless I need a "jimmy"!!

I like my gloves to have a thumb patch as I can be quite hard on them in this area. Got a couple of nice Footjoy ones for Xmas which will come out from the Spring.

I wear a glove for all shots other than chipping from the fringe and putting. I have a tendency to grip the club far too tightly when i'm not playing well so without a glove i'd have a big red hand.
