Golf club websites

I'll always look for course information on any course I'm visiting but a bit like Leftie, chances are it's been arranged as a club match, GM get together or with some mates from my own club so I'd be playing there anyway.

I'm also going to be dipping my toe into the updating of our club website in due course. However whilst it would be great to have an all singing, all dancing, whistle and bells site, a lot of the people in the club office have very little web experience and so only update what they've been shown.

Of course it is in the interest of any club to keep the site updated especially for its members, and updates on the course being open, temp greens etc should be a given. I can understand why some clubs have a members only section (some I know have members phone numbers etc) but surely it is the appeal to the wider audience that will have the greater benefit.

I'd love to know which you think are the best/worse you've seen so I can have some pointers on what is required and the pitfalls to avoid when I talk to my club. I have no web publishing experience and so I can really see it from a beginners level.

I play all my golf in the s,yorks area and places like
Rotherham gc and Doncaster gc are very good sites to look at
numerous pics of all 18 holes,Wheatley gc,Wortley and
hallamshire are good courses to play.

I think ours is a very good site. Its updated everyday letting you know what course is open and if there are temps or not. It gives the green fees, pictures of the club house and pro shop and give you photos of each hole plus a yardage book picture of each hole on both courses. Overall a good web site.
Why are people so interested in the Members section of a web site.
Join the club.
Problem solved.
