GM opportunity clubs in the bag

I still have my RBZ driver in the bag.

If I were to go for a fitting today it probably wouldn't be the club I ended up with. At the time I was struggling to launch the ball so have an ultra high loft driver and shaft combo. I now launch it well and I don't think I need the extra help this gives me.

However, I hit it well and I hit it straight - if I put a good swing on it. No plans to change.

I've always thought an interesting article would be a follow up with people that have been fitted, say 12 - 18 months later, across a range of different types of player. For example, players that have practiced hard and changed their swing and made big improvements, people that have stayed roughly where they were handicap wise etc and see whether what they were fitted for is still the most appropriate set up.

Before I got my RBZ, I was fitted about 12 months previously for a 910 D2 and ended up with a low launching shaft. It was a good fitting and the right shaft for me then - 12 months later I needed help launching it having made some changes to my swing (that weren't working).

I'd love to know what the optimum set up would be for me now, and I expect it'd be something like a 10.5 degree driver with some kind of stuff shaft, potentially similar to the shaft in my current driver. But even if there were some combo that might suit a little better, I can't really justify the expense given the incremental benefit would be limited and I think there are easier ways to improve my game - putting practice, short game lessons, more swing lessons, and generally practising my approach play.

I was fitted for a Titleist 913D3 driver courtesy of GM in September 2103 and it is still safely in the bag.

Not really a surprise... I mean the technology in that club is decades ahead of anything else you could go and pick up from American Golf on a Saturday afternoon. ;)

I was lucky enough to get selected for a Set of Mizuno irons, Still in the bag and they will be more a good few years, Never would have chose Mizuno before that and they have been awesome.

Amost all of my Benross clubs from last March are still in the bag, I'm especially loving the irons and have no plans to change anything at the moment. The only one which has been taken out is one of the hybrids, I went back to my old 23* hybrid ... which is a 5-year old Benross!

Due to some of the comments regarding Mizuno drivers, I thought this was rather strange, and that's coming from a Mizzy fan (irons)

The above picture gives the impression that Luke plays with a Mizuno driver due to the head cover, but follow the link and click on it

It is standard practice for staff players to use the sponsor headcover (or a novelty headcover) on a non-staff driver. Plenty of other driver makes in other bags with a different brand of headcover.

SLDR that I got 18 months ago now is still in the bag. Despite a digression to a different shaft for a couple of weeks, i'm back on the original !!

What about last week? :smirk:

It's been used on and off since I got it. I reckon it's been on the sidelines for a total of 6 months in the 3.5 years I've had it. The current stint started about 4-5 months ago and I now can't see me changing. Ever. Yeah right! ;)

Never won a club opportunity (along with many others). Had the DNA's from about a year ago, and as much as they are very, very comfy...spikes are falling out on a regular basis, so refuse to keep replacing them!

Great to hear about some long staying items - we tend to hear about peoples' kit changes regularly so sometimes it seems everyone is changing kit but you! Guess has been more posts about keeping, than the magic dust failing. As is often said, some great opportunities via GM & partners.

@bigslice - if you see this please clear your PMs.

Won a couple of Cleveland wedges at the start of last year. Absolutely love them and they are still in the bag.

he hasn't played a mizzie driver for quite a while, think he had an R11 whilst world no1. Did see pics of him using a titleist one fairly recently though.
