Glen Hoddle

Was in the rest room today at work and picked up the Sun newspaper and reading Rio Ferdinand's piece about the England Managers that he has played under.

He said, "By far and away the best he has played for is Glen Hoddle". Also he felt that the younger players were coming through just at the right time. Then Hoddle got the sack!

Personally I've always thought that the FA made a big big mistake and not brave enough to stick by him.
Rio also said that in his opinion England have never recovered.

I totally agree with all Ferdinand said and would love to see Hoddle back where he belongs.

Any thoughts?

Totally agree mate, would love to see Hoddle back.

Care to expand?

You just being a wum or intentionally trying to anger parents of kids with additional needs/disabilities?

Not at all, being a 'religion based' comment I don't see how it's possible to criticise his beliefs seeing as millions of people have them - our culture is based on them and (ideally) no one can really determine whether any of them are right or wrong. His comment was bang out of order (to me) but that doesn't mean that I can/should judge his beliefs, only his capacity to do his job.

Do you not remember why he was sacked he basically said handicapped people were handicapped because of indiscretions in a previous life, he shouldn't be allowed on television and England were right to sack him.

So much for the Equal Opportunity Employer! But that applies to him as well! Employ him for his Football skills and keep his private beliefs private!

Daft belief imo, though only as daft as some of the beliefs/customs/stories in other religions!

I guess Rio is in a better position to decide than us non international footballers

Thats true but its still only an opinion of one senior player but should a handful of players with the same pedigree as Rio speak up then it makes it a lot more credible. Personally I think the man is average at best. He doesn't have any credentials I can see or recent success that could add value in the future. That could change of course but all this religious mumbo jumbo has no place in Sport and just made the bloke who was a talented footballer once, look a complete chump!

The best England manager rio has played under? Let's face it, it's not exactly an illustrious bunch is it? Seems to me if you were ditching Roy you'd be better looking for someone new and better than any of that bunch.

Just a thought.... :)

I think it was a real shame Hoddle made the mistake of going public with his thoughts and beliefs, whether or not they then got blown out of proportion by the press. I think he had the potential to get a lot from the England side he had at the time and playing a more European type of game suited to the world stage.

Sadly I think that ship has sailed and he won't get another crack which is a shame as I still think he'd have a lot to offer .
