Was in the rest room today at work and picked up the Sun newspaper and reading Rio Ferdinand's piece about the England Managers that he has played under.

He said, "By far and away the best he has played for is Glen Hoddle". Also he felt that the younger players were coming through just at the right time. Then Hoddle got the sack!

Personally I've always thought that the FA made a big big mistake and not brave enough to stick by him.
Rio also said that in his opinion England have never recovered.

I totally agree with all Ferdinand said and would love to see Hoddle back where he belongs.

Any thoughts?

Sorry, put this in the wrong section, should be Out of bounds!

It's been a long day.

Can a Mod please move it.

Ta!

Would have Hoddle back to England job in a flash

He'd certainly do a pretty good job imo.

But Roy is doing pretty well with the talent he has imo.

Not sure about Hoddle's 'Agony Aunt' or 'positive vibe anticlockwise runs' though! Several very good Managers were hounded out of the England job by 'bad press'!

Do you not remember why he was sacked he basically said handicapped people were handicapped because of indiscretions in a previous life, he shouldn't be allowed on television and England were right to sack him.

I've just checked out his Managerial Career on Wikipedia and yes he was criticised for what he said about Disabled people.
But Lord Ashley, Disabled Rights Campaigner, did say that although he disagreed with his religious views, he defended his (Hoddles) rights to express them. As did other prominent people. And inferred it shouldn't be a reason to lose his job.
It also mentions his fundraising for Disabled groups before and after he was sacked, and still continues to do so.

Some views can be overlooked some ideas can be ignored some just don't have a place in civilised society guess it just depends on your beliefs and values. I don't think someone who is a role model as the England manager is should be allowed to hold such vile views, he wasn't tricked into expressing them either he thought they were acceptable.

As usual in this sort of scenario with the press, his words were taken out of context. I think to use the word "vile" is a bit over the top to be honest.

Leaving aside his weird and extremely distasteful utterances I would have to ask on what basis anybody would decide to reappoint him.

His record at Southampton, Tottenham and Wolves together with his most recent "consultancy " role at QPR seems to suggest that his time is well and truly passed.

Still he certainly is not short of self-belief which is not hurt by his sycophantic friends in the London based press. As a player he had far more fans inside the M25 than outside.

We are talking about International football and not "Club" football.

And with respect to you and others opinions here, I would rather take Rio Ferdinands first hand experiences of all the England Managers that he has played under, as a player himself.

Can see exactly what you are saying but he seemed really suited to international football and even if he isn't the manager I think his ideas and thoughts are the sort that England need.

So what is the big difference between being a National Team Coach and the role he is fulfilling at QPR.

Also would refer you to your OP where you sought opinions on Ferdinand's comments.

Remember the adage, "if you are not likely to appreciate the answers don't ask the question in the first place."

Does it not seem likely that Ferdinand's comments might be coloured by the need to "sell" his book.

The players he has to work with being one - best of the bunch as it were.

Yes I did seek opinions and appreciate them, but don't have to agree with them, as you with mine. Just wanted to start a debate.

As for his book, I don't think he, needs, to worry about selling, his reputation will do that on its own.
