played comp 2 day front 9 used driver hit no fairways at all really shocking 11 points, back 9 used hybrid 3 off the t hit every fairway and losted not much distance came back in with 20 points just 2 show hit the fairways score more points :)

I had the OPs issue, I had a shaft fitting and 1 lesson and now I miss 3-4 fairways per round rather than find that amount.

The problems...

Ball position too far back in stance and a too light and whippy shaft.

Moved it way forward and switched to a heavy stiff shaft (also cut down an inch and a half).

Now I average 250 off the tee with 1 or two touching 270+ and miss fairways by yards rather than tens of yards!

It's worth it if your struggling to hit fairways. I'm very hit and miss from round to round with all parts of my game so it's something I've tried and it worked well.

Driver is the best club in my bag. It's got the biggest head and is the most forgiving... if you can't hit the big one then waddya got?

I could hit it 200yrds every time if I wasn't trying to rip it 300+

Hit it but take your foot off the gas until you learn to control it.

I had to buy a 3 wood for when my driver isn't working, if its not hitting the fairway by the 4th, 3 wood is out for more control.

driver is a hit and miss club

My driving has always been erratic but it can also be good when it works. I just need to find something that repeats in the same way my irons seem to and I'm think a C/F is really the only way to get the optimum shaft for my swing. Take that out of the equation and it can only be technique and surely a lesson or two can fix that

I'm confident with the driver hit 10 of 14 fairways today. But i added a 2 iron today and hit 3 out of 3 fairways with that. the 2 iron still goes 200 yards so is perfect for the shorter par 4's to leave me a full shot rather than a flick in.

last week i was hitting the driver ok,but this week shocking its a funny old game but i was still hitting my hybrid past my playing mates and they was hitting drivers so not al bad :)

I've finally gone back to using the driver. My pro basically told me that avoiding a club isn't the answer, learning to use it is.
