Mods - quick - a political post.I will remember that argument when the independence debate arises again![]()
The Centre for Economics and Business Research estimates a £337 million ($420 million) boost from extra tourism and spending in pubs over the three-day weekend, which includes an extra public holiday on May 8.Such a crying shame public funds are being wasted on this charade during a cost of living crisis where foodbanks are very much a real thing and homelessness is on the rise.
A bit of pomp and ceremony on a Saturday being broadcast on 3 of the many, many hundred channels available and suddenly people compare us to North Korea and use words like dystopian - a bit of a reality check is needed.
Forgot to take your tablets today, did ya?The man in uniform with the rifle in my living room, is making me type how much I'm in favour of the the Monarchy!
And how scrumy does Anita Rani look?
Particularly in the suppression of protest today, quite dystopian really.
BIB - I doubt very much that anyone thinks that this is in any way even vaguely normal. It’s a once in a generation thing - by definition.Perhaps the money spent on this could be spent on feeding the poor and homeless, providing homes for the homeless, increasing salaries so those job vacancies you mention are more attractive etc etc.
Imagine bowing to a king in 2023. Britain has a serious collective mental illness to think this crap is normal. This island is very much heading towards peak North Korea territory.
And has been happening for 1000 years apparently. Nothing wrong with celebrating traditions.BIB - I doubt very much that anyone thinks that this is in any way even vaguely normal. It’s a once in a generation thing - by definition.

I call it the right thing to do.What else do you call people being arrested for nothing more than carrying dissenting placards?

whi not really fissed either way in regards to the monarch. Do they actually make us money? In what way can any of it be compared to North Korea
Do you know how much money the whole thing will bring into the economy.
It’s going to be a massive boost

yes their tourism generates revenue, but I’ve only ever seen that they cost us money. Albeit last time I saw it was something like 75p each.
I agree, it's about the same as the money spent by the top 4 teams in the Premiership every week, That could be spent on the poor & homeless as wellPerhaps the money spent on this could be spent on feeding the poor and homeless, providing homes for the homeless, increasing salaries so those job vacancies you mention are more attractive etc etc.

Today alone they are talking about adding £1bn into the economy through multiple revenues.
Millions each year come to see the royals or at least try and get a sight of one.
I’m not a huge royalist by any stretch and there are far too many hangers on but they imo are a clear attraction to billions around the world.
There's plenty of France that is a hovel!Without the royals tourists wouldn't come in their sheer numbers. Most of the UK doesn't overly appeal to tourists to actually visit unless it's to take something royal in
Everyone bangs on how France people go to even tho their royals are gone and they go visit it
Newsflash France is a beautiful country
England whilst lovely to live in is actually not the nicest / cheapest place for tourists to come
The royals more than pay for themselves
A president would add another level of corruption, let's leave the royals as they are bringing billions a year in
