When I took up golf only 5 years ago was put off joining a local club because of their apparent sexist approach to women playing golf.. some of the comments on this forum make me wish i had never taken the game up as the prehistoric views that people have astounded me in the 21st Century. I want to play golf and I want it to be inclusive not exclusive, do people have same views on youngsters playing.. makes my blood boil to read some of the comments that are made.. if people have these views than its time for me to distance myself from such a forum and magazine whose name allows these comments to be made.. subscription cancellation letter will be on its way.. will the last person i the mens only club please turn the lights off as they leave .. goodnight and goodbye

What a load of self indulgent drivel.

On a rather simplistic level you are correct. If you think about it you might manage to understand why such safe spaces exist.

The point, which is indeed rather straightforward, is that the women get more facilities for the same subscription. Simple indeed, but not simplistic, which is a rather condescending word to use. Gender discrimination cases are often based on simple situations.

As for the need for "safe" places, it is a fairly expensive gym with an entirely voluntary membership, not a dark country road where single women have to walk in fear.

 I was not suggesting women risk attack in your gym. Just trying to get you to think why some women might not be happy to work out while being ogled by some of the guys.

Try reading any thread in this forum about any attractive female golfer if you're still struggling to work it out.

I belong to a club that has a thriving Ladies section and the club would be less of an enjoyment without them.
Have had the pleasure of playing some great comps with some of the lady members and going against popular belief they are mostly good golfers. I tend to find the male members who complain about the female members slowing play down are the one's who are looking for an excuse for thier own poor play.
Any golf club that still has no lady members is missing out.

Not struggling at all. Patiently awaiting you explaining yourself in more detail, in particular why that justifies discrimination in the provision of services.

. Couldn't agree more.

Fascinating watch. Honestly though I would say that clubs particular problem wasn't sex but age. Was there a single person in the programme under 50? (Apart from one of the greenkeepers)

Think thats a fair representation of the area the club is located in... Its more an area for the older generation rather than an 'up and coming area' for younger families...

Well, for the avoidance of doubt, I'm against discrimination in all shapes and forms; including the example you described at your gym. With hindsight, my mistake was in attempting to broaden the discussion into why that room existed - which you, wisely, won't be drawn into.

What saddens me is that whenever someone attempts to start a thread here about the discrimination women tend to face at golf clubs it gets twisted into a debate on anti-male discrimination. Which does exist and is wrong but, make no mistake, able-bodied straight white men are the least discriminated against group in our society and it tends not to be so much against them as "positive discrimination" in favour of another group for well-meaning (if ultimately misguided) reasons..... which is another discussion entirely!

As usual, I've stayed in this thread long after I should have bowed out. Which I'll do now.....
