Gender free golf

Who mentioned gender? - the whole thread is about it! Hence the lol.

So I mentioned pace of play a d you jump on the offensive saying it's evident in the men's medals. So again I'll ask who mentioned gender??

Pace of play in golf is now horrendous. Anything that can be done to speed it up should be done and done quickly.

If women want to play off of white Tee's and can knock it round in 3.5 hours then fill your boots, likewise with guys off the reds running round in 2.5 hours. Just play off a tee that matches your ability not your ego.

Well I tried but it’s back to lol I’m afraid!

Would love to see competition rounds off chosen tees and handicaps adjusted as such.

Do you risk going off a back tee and getting shots or go off the front and get less? Would add an extra element for sure!

I would bet most would soon choose a tee to match their ability and pace of play would improve no end for weekend competition rounds.

Sorry to bring reality into it but it doesn't - it makes it worse!

Think about it. You have different people, potentially in different games but leave that aside for a minute, basically playing holes in different ways. People playing from forward tees having to wait for people to play their second shots from the back, waiting for par 5 greens to clear that are in range for them, but not those playing from the back etc We have 4 holes where the shortest 2 tee sets are 70 odd yards in front of the normal boxes!

Most people choose the tees that will enable them to score best; around 20% will always choose the very back tees due to ego and bragging rights (threads on here provide clear evidence of that power) but that 20% won't include cat 1 players who will generally look for the best scoring (cut) option including consideration of who else is off those tees and likely CSS impact. One down from their normal comp tees seems to be a favourite.
Other factors include the choices of those they are playing with ie go with the flow, and make the best of it.
Good fun comps, great club events especially mixed, but not a great competitive experience from what I have seen.

There are two different concepts which get mixed up here. One is to have all tees rated for male and female players (meaning that women simply get more shots when they play off the same tee as men). This is how it is already done on many courses in Europe, especially in Scandinavia. What some people seem to be suggesting here seems to be to get rid of different ratings (be it SSS, course rating or slope rating) for men and women altogether. And that would simply not work. Or at least it would not encourage women to take up the game, except for maybe a few very athletic young ones.

Don’t ever see “ability tees” working -

Yep have every tee rated for both Male and female but all comps have to be played off the same tee for each sex - if you start bringing in different tees for different abilities it starts to become a little bit elitist - ie you can only play the white or full course if you are single figures as an example and then the administration of it all will be a nightmare and what actually are you trying to achieve at the end of the day ? Slow play isn’t because a tee being used

If the tees are marked with a SSS/CSS, isn't that all that's needed to run a competition. However take the competitive side away from it, and as I've said, the club has a certain duty to free each and every set of tees up to anyone, and for golfers and media to get behind the idea of allowing people to choose their tee of the day, based on their ability/age/experience etc to ensure they have the most enjoyable game they can, especially as a visitor to a club and paying a green fee

No, that's my point. You need two different gender specific SSS/CSS ratings (or CR and Slope, never mind which system you use) on each tee to make it fair. Otherwise women would never have a chance to get to scratch level. I know, you've all been outdriven by the odd female long hitter once in a while. Actually, I have outdriven the occasional shorter male hitter (not naming names :D) and I am not even a long hitter by ladies standards. But it is a system of averages (and also, the guys always, always had me with the second shot, even if I hit a hybrid and they hit a 7 iron). And the averages for male and female players will never be the same, no matter on what level of play you do the comparison. You can compare the top 100 players of the world, for example, or the top 100 amateurs of a country, you will always find the same distance gap between male and female players. I'm a feminist and I am all for gender equality. But when it comes to athletic endeavours, especially those where strength does play a part, it just is not to be.
