as title says at the age of 38 its the second time. but will contunue to do so every time that im allowed. anyone who hasnt or is thinking about, as Tiger's sponsor says "just do it". me i probably through ignorance never thought about it but 95% of us rely on the other 5% for blood in emergencies.

I don't get why people don't do it. I go regularly and am on the bone marrow register. I had to donate for that a couple of years ago. Most painful thing ever but what's a week of pain compared to giving someone else hope for a new life?

I give blood too.

I'll do anything for half an hour out of the office and a free cuppa ;)

I'm thinking about platelet donation now too as a mate of mine does it.

i gave blood for years , then got a couple of tattoos & had to miss a few donations , ashamedly i still havent gone back ,this is a good reminder to do so tho.. Ta

i am a donor too, probably given 15 times now. I am A neg, so a popular blood type for transfusions as it can be given to any blood type (i think)

Done love free biccies!! but gave blood two weeks ago and they bruised me big time!! they took the needle out and said "ooo thats going to bruise!" first time its happened! still its nothing compared to the pain of imagining a loved one in an accident needing blood and none is available...

A neg is a reasonably rare group (i have it also) according to wiki around 7% of the UK population have it.

It can only be given to A or AB recipients.

It's one reason to keep giving and 1 reason I should get back to it.

Cant do it, one look at a needle and I'm horizontal. Have the flu jab each year, the Wife has to come with me, I have to book the last appoitment of the day, because I could be there a while and 2 nurses do a 2 prong attack, so I dont know which one has the needle.

Hate needles

Used to do platelets for a while but the count dropped so I was taken off it (I think the count has to be consistently over 250 but it can change, no idea why), but that's why next week's is number 115. (I have a friend with a count over 400 who has done this once a month over the last 20 years)

platelet doning is so easy, really comfortable sculptured lounger while they cycle 2 litres through you - hence it counts double

I am rather rare .. not my blood type but my age - I am still giving blood at the ripe old age of 70+ and also still able to score in the 70's!!

I thank God for the health and strength which allows me to participate in both the above events.

They love having me on a list of Bneg donors but I keep going to malarial areas so I can't donate until 15 months after coming back. I can give again in September. Always give as my dad had Leukemia and needed 15 odd pints to keep him ticking over until he passed away. Don't hesitate guys - get involved and help someone out.

Same as Captainron, save my old mans life on a few occasions. This thread is the spur for me to actually do it now.isn't there some restriction on when you last drank alcohol? Could be a problem!!
