Galvin Green

I'm thinking about investing in a Galvin Green waterproof jacket (as my current supposedly waterproof jacket doesn't keep me very dry or warm!) - for those on here that have bought one, which one have you got?, and would you say they are worth the money?

I'd be using the majority of my remaining golfing budget for the year to buy one, so want to make sure they are worth the high price.

Oh yeah, can anyone suggest the cheapest place to purchase such a jacket from as well?

I've got a half zip jacket, think it's the Alfons. In my opinion it's well worth the money but it depends how much you play in the rain etc. I play in all weathers and also use the jacket for general non golf use as well.

If it's only going to be used once or twice a year then it's probaby not worth it

The Alfrons was my current favorite actually. It seems slightly cheaper than some of the others as well which is a bonus.

I play every weekend all year round so it will get plenty of use with the weather in this country!

IMO there best waterproofs and well worth the investment ,have the full suit and keep you both warm and dry.

I've got the Austin Jacket, had it for a year an a half now. Got it from a retailers in the Channel Islands for £90, a veritable bargin when compared to the full retail price of over £200 at the time. I guess I just got lucky as there's no way I (well the Mrs, tbh) would have got it at full price.

I play all year and it's been a really good bit of kit.

They are nice waterproofs, just don't think £300 on a set of new waterproofs will do any more for you than a £150.

I have looked a lot at waterproofs this winter, after doing a lot of OT over xmas.

I bought a pair of Sunderland goretex trousers in the sales, £60, soft, comfortable, well worth the money. Sorted. Now for the jacket. Can't be that hard.

Ok, so, paclite. Like wearing a dustbin bag. Crackles as it moves, nasty stuff. Got a cycling jacket in this stuff, never again. Waterproof, breathable, just NOISY.

So, full on goretex then.

Galvin Green. Made for a stocky build. Doesn't fit my slim 6ft 2. Arms too short, body too short, body too wide. Goretex seems to be the stiff canvas version. Not comfortable.

Others, made from paclite (see above).

I like a 1/2 zip, as a full zip interferes with my putting. I also like half sleeves (or zip offs), as I find long sleeves annoying.

Result? Not bought any thing, and am waiting for the right jacket to come along. Could take some time, but if it is silly money, it needs to be right.

No, because I had kind of set my heart on goretex, as it has a reputation of being the best.

That said, I tried on a weird stretchy Nike top, scary money, and looked very odd, and if they had had my size, I would have bought it. Fully waterproof, all bonded (no stitching), black with shiny patches on the shoulders. Looked like a trendy bin man in it.

I know they are top quality and you get what you pay for but I don't really see much difference in terms of performance between my Proquip silktouch suit for £110 (should have been £199 for the suit) and the GG. I have played as much as the course was open in the winter including rain, sleet and snow and have been dry and warm. Personally I think its overpriced and I'm not a huge fan of some of their designs

I have a GG Alfons jkt and it is decent enough, however I believe that GG is starting to be left behind now in the waterproof market. Look at Cross and the new ProQuip waterproofs which are much "quieter" and are stretchy.

The Underarmour waterproof gets a good right up as well.

I agree that Cross has become a real market player. My pro has started stocking them and they look the business and at a reasonable price.

This winter season i have been using the Under Armour waterproof jacket,its a superb jacket quite stretchy and is a good fit i dont like waterproofs to have any droop when i set up over the ball
