Morning all, just getting ready to go out to golf this morning.:whoo:been thinking about changing my gps.I have a garmin s1 watch and thinking of getting either Garmin G6(seen advertised for £199.00) or maybe another later version of Garmin watch.Thoughts please as to which and why from past or present experiences. All replies appreciated.Have a great day or great round.ENJOY what ever you are up to.:)

I wouldn't want to be buying an "All singing & dancing " GPS device without knowing that ALL courses changes will be updated so it would be a Sky Caddie for me

If your looking at the watch then the Linx is excellent http://www.newskycaddie.com/en-GB/products/SkyCaddie-LINX or the latest Touch http://www.newskycaddie.com/en-GB/products/SkyCaddie-TOUCH

No matter how much the manufacturers big up their GPS golfing device functions, screen or images, if the course detail is wrong its useless!

:smirk:

I have the Garmin S1 as well. Like the convienence of the watch as opposed to a handheld unit. Thinking of taking a look at the new Golf Buddy watch when it's released. Should be in shops around now I think. The WT4 , it seems to have a lot of features. Also I think Golf buddy walk the course so distances should be very accurate

No they don't and if any changes happened to a course nobody other than Sky Caddie revisit and walk them again. Its written (hidden) in every other brands small print :smirk:

Not sure. Checking it on google it seems to say that skycaddie and GolfBuddy are the two who walk courses

I must admit I would never use Skycaddie again. Given that you pay a subscription their customer services is non existent and with my last SGW-X unit I ended up calling it quits after the 2nd unit and now have the Golfbuddy PT4.

Regardless of whether they walk the course or not I've really only see a different of 3-4 yards between Skycaddie and others and given that I never hit exact distances it really doesn't bother me.

My son has asked for a GPS watch for Christmas. I was looking at the S1. Are people generally happy with it or is there another similar one I should be looking at? He likes the idea of the watch as it is simple to glance at with minimum fuss. Don't mean to hijack this but a couple of contributors have mentioned they use one.

I have one, for what it does, its great. as you say its very simple and i have found accurate. but basic compared to what is now available, ie this only gives greens, no hazards etc. but thats enough for me and a lot of people and if its 3 yards out compared to a skycaddie, so i care? no.

For the money, the S1 is a great bit of kit.

Its not just about a few yards though, I personally know of 16 courses in the Midlands that have added bunkers, ditches, extended water hazards, moved tee boxes etc and these will all be updated in January, no other GPS will show them for a few years, if at all! Also, 20+ clubs across the Midlands changed their scorecards, all these were updated immediately as soon as I was informed, again, try ringing up Garmin or another GPS company and ask them to walk your course or to make those changes immediately for you, they can't and they don't and they admit that themselves!

Fair enough. From my own personal experience with them and the additional costs associated on a yearly basis I would go near them given the service (or lack of) for a piece of kit worth £300+.

Cheers mate. Sounds similar to other comments I have heard and it should suit. I have seen more sophisticated hand held devices and whilst they are brilliant they do seem to slow the game down quite a bit.
