Could it be that srixon/Cleveland are taking pro r&d more serious in effort to win a bigger Market share, g-mac off the back of this season shows brand faith. Just an idea

Just not sure how Srixon/Cleveland really break into the market. Nike have Woods, TM have the market through saturation and Mizuno and Titleist produce top quality irons. Where do Srixon/Cleveland fit or break into that

Srixon have good irons, they are maybe not as established as Mizuno and the likes however that doesn't mean that they are an inferior quality. Srixon are huge in Asia and they are slowly but surely breaking down the barriers of the European and American markets.
Homer, Cleveland I'm sure are still the most used wedge on the US Tour, I may be wrong but I'm sure I read that somewhere. Huge share of the wedge market.
I accept that and recognise they are top quality wedges and have a huge pro following. However the European/US market is still going to be difficult for anyone to break into and get a suitable foothold. I'm sure the signing will do a lot to help establish their name in these areas but I can't help feeling it'll be a long process for them I've not hit many Srixon irons but they do look good especially the Z-TX

I think you'll find that in terms of market share Ping are No1 or No2 in most categories Homer.
In what way? Do they need to be releasing new clubs every 4 months to be current and deemed the best?
Remember one mans callaway is another mans titleist etc.

I just hope that the Z-Star balls are as good as the reports say they are, not so much for G-Mac's sake as for mine, I've just ordered a year's subscription to Golf International magazine and the bonus incentive is a dozen Srixon Z-Star balls.

He's a pro for crying out loud. He could play with persimmon woods and still score well. At the end of the day the contract will be for a certain number of clubs probably 11/12. He'll moat likely keep his putter and Driver. Makes perfect sense to cash in as he is extremely marketable at the moment. Fair play to G-Mac. The critical thing will he how he adapts if he chooses to play a Z-Star.

Understandable move if true. On paper good for both parties. Srixon/Cleveland need a big name in Europe, and McDowell can be a bigger fish there than at Callaway where he'd always be behind Phil M and Ernie. The gear doesn't enter into it. He could play with anything decent and anyway they'll build him a set he likes.
I agree that for Srixon/Cleveland to grab more of the European market even with McDowell on board will be a tall order. It's pretty crowded. A popular player on board can make a difference - Harrington did wonders for Wilson's profile but then again he was already using their gear when he won his majors.

He could play with any clubs, but I doubt he would have the same confidence and certainly wouldnt know them as well.

Brandy, your more often than not find he's contract is for a calendar year, hence cally still using him as a marketing tool.

I think Graeme already uses 2 of their hybrids. I love my CG15 wedges and some friends have bought them as well. Good value for a good club.

If he is talking to Srixon/Cleveland, which we still don't know is true I reckon the deal is for him to use their irons, wedges and ball. It is just as important for them that he doesn't switch to their endorsement and have an absolute meltdown.
