Funny old game...

5 months and 5 rounds ago I stood over an 8ft birdie putt on the 17th green to keep me and my partner alive in the club knockout foursomes...

Today, I knocked an 8-iron stiff on the 15th in the final of that same knockout to close it out 4&3 and get my name on an honours board for the first time at my current home club of Crowborough Beacon!

Funny old game, as Greavsie would have said (if he'd been a golf rather than football pundit).

No - checked the forecast several times yesterday and it was saying dry and sunny in the morning before showers moving in around lunchtime... and that's exactly what we got, so they are right sometimes.

Teed off at 8.00, back in the clubhouse before 11.00, even playing out the 'dead' holes after the match was finished. Perfect Saturday really - now just hoping for a perfect Sunday too with Everton turning over Man Utd at Old Trafford and City disposing of Wolves to set up a cracking run-in!

Smiffy hasn't yet approached me to partner him in anything, so suspect I may not quite be good enough for him.

Black signwriting rather than gold leaf I'm afraid, but still only the second time in my life I've got my name up on something (think I won The Captain's Sword once at The Nevill in Tunbridge Wells when I was a member there!)

I took The Captain's Pork Sword once at The Nevill in Tunbridge Wells when I was a member there!

Do they still have that initiation ceremony at the Nevill Jezz??? I could hardly walk for a week....

Congratulation on your win. Too late to enter the winter knockouts this year but I've just got my name down in time for the Caldecot Cup.
Best I ever did there was get to the finals of the Mary Rose Flagons in 1995, got beat 2&1 by Terry Hedderman and his son Darren. Great game.
It always brings a tear to my eye when I see their names up on the board!
