Fun competition with a "top" prize....

Just had a quick update from Smiffy... after yesterdays and this mornings round he has 16 points and 20 blobs so far, so things are going better than he expected :D

I THINK I SEE A PATTERN :D :D

Bloody hell! That was windy (and wet at times)...
Got back late last night, too knackered to post. Our plan was to leave St Mellion first thing on Wednesday morning but we had to postpone our Tuesday morning round because of the weather and played it yesterday morning instead. Didn't actually leave Cornwall until about 2.30 so caught a lot of traffic on the way home.
Anyway, the result for me was....

ROUND ONE. KERNOW COURSE. 32 POINTS. 3 BLOBS.
ROUND TWO. KERNOW COURSE. 36 POINTS. I BLOB.
ROUND THREE. NICKLAUS COURSE. 25 POINTS. 5 BLOBS.
ROUND FOUR. NICKLAUS COURSE. 31 POINTS. 2 BLOBS.
ROUND FIVE. KERNOW COURSE. 28 POINTS. 2 BLOBS.

TOTAL POINTS...152. TOTAL BLOBS...13.
An average points score of 30.4 which given the conditions I am pleased with.
So who won?????

They let you back into the country then ;) ;)

Seems I underestimated you. Well played in those conditions mate.

Alan Bannisters approach to the 6th hole on the Kernow actually landed here Rog...

He managed to play it from there, get on the green and two putt for a nett par (it was the SI 1 hole).
I think you can tell from the picture the kind of weather we had to contend with

Some more piccies....
The landing area from the tee on the 3rd, Nicklaus course. Believe me, with a 30mph wind in your boat, that landing area looks tiny from the tee. And with a bank of knee high grass up the left hand side and an almost sheer drop to the right you can't afford to be wayward.

The par 3 4th hole on the Nicklaus course. Look how bloody tight that is. Straight into the wind again, no bale out left or right. Nothing but trouble unless you are straight.

On to the 5th, beautiful par 4, over a lake and around to the left. Who said Jack Nicklaus favoured faders???? A decent drive needed to carry the water, not much left to get home but a stream that meanders all the way around the green. And God help you if you hit a slice or a hook off the tee, 'cos you are in the crap. I blobbed this the first time round but managed to secure a par during the second round.

I guess it is classed as the signature hole. Par 3 11th, and again....straight into the wind. Playing a lot longer than it's yardage suggested. Managed a 4 here first round, regulation par second time around.

Then on to the 12th. This for me is the toughest hole on the course. No question. In amongst the toughies, this one is a monster. Par 5, water all the way down the right hand side, trees and crap all the way down the left, and it plays long. Very long. If you make a 5 here then look on it as a birdie. I blobbed it first time round, scraped a very scruffy 7 for 1 during the 2nd round. This has got to be the most intidimating hole I have played anywhere. And I mean "anywhere". I haven't got a picture of it from the tee, but this one was taken after we had played our 2nd shots.

This is what you have to get over with your third to hit the green. Not a lot of room there...whichever direction you look in.
Whenever I have played this course in the past, this is the one hole I just cannot get my head around.

And a picture of Jim Carry climbing out of the arse of a Zebra (we couldn't find a rhino on the course)

Notice the drop down the 1st fairway???

To the green miles below???

Great pictures Rob, but they have completely put me off ever playing there. :( The cart paths look wider than the fairways. :D

On some of the holes Rich, you're not far wrong.
It's the most intimidating course I've ever played.
The whole place is overwhelming.
