I'm not a fan but do play it. My main issue with it is it can be hard to get going when you're not hitting every shot and sometimes the way it works out you can be well into the round before you have to hit certain types of shot.

I think part of what turns me off isn't actually related to the format itself. We play it mainly in knockout matchplay over the season and it can be a right pain to arrange ties where you need four players free during the summer!

I have played for years and my name is on the Club Honours board twice , 2001 and 2012 with different partners in the Summer Handicap KO , In the Beckford Bowl , the local scratch Ryder Cup For Dorset and Hampshire clubs we play 5 foursomes am and 10 singles in the afternoon and this year at my New club we play the Parkstone Trophy which is 36 holes scratch foursomes in the over 55 age group so have played a lot of it , you have to be straight off the tee and putt well and you have to keep the ball in play . Most KO matches are played in the long summer evenings

A good format to appreciate course management and get a player thinking how to best play a hole for themselves and others. Also good for highlighting strengths and weaknesses in the players games.

Edit

Also nice to play for someone else. Can be quite an unforgiving or challenging format.

All plus's for me.

Clicked on to the thread hoping there was a "hate it hate it hate it" option and there it was! Really struggle with the format just can never get into a rhythm with any club in the bag, last time I played it I didn't use my putter till the 6th!

Not for me will avoid where possible!

I don't mind the game as such, but I work 5 days looking forward to my weekend golf and selfishly want to hit all the shots.

Ah but do you like it when you play it. I think most of us wouldn't like to play it as our one game a week. So taking that out of the equation...

My liking for it goes down to I do think it improves my thinking and course management and that helps my own 'singles' golf. I also really enjoy the 'team' aspect of it. You both share your messes and successes.

Loved watching it in the Ryder Cup and would also love to have a go in a comp. My club has never done anything like this or even a fourball matchplay event. May suggest it at the next meeting !

Love watching it but hate playing it! A friend of mine encouraged me to play a summer foursomes knockout back in 2009 went through 6 rounds and then won it!!! ::confused: Hated every minute and was glad it was all over...

Played in a couple of foursomes events this year, first time I'd played it for a long time.

Got to say I thoroughly enjoyed it, although I wouldn't want to play it all the time.

If I wanted to play half a round of golf, I'd play 9 holes.

Hawkeye is quite adamant in his dislike for both foursomes and greensomes and so we've never entered these events. To be honest I've the same feelings and really don't enjoy it at all. However with him departing I "may" be open to persuasion to try it again although I'll take some persuading

We did do greensomes once, I don't remember us doing that well though! Maybe your new partner will like it more?

PP and myself won our clubs ladies major Greensomes competition this year. We found it a tough format as we'd not played it before but enjoyed it as well.
