Although there was a novelty at first I no longer see a relevance to number of posts.

It is easy to build up a high number of posts simply by posting a completely irrellavant response to every topic.

For example "Any advice on golf in spain?" and then a response comes of "Never been myself, would like to, blah blah blah...."

Thats where I am coming from. Quantity isnt always quality.

Most forums have a post count, it is just the way things are done. Often, posts in non related areas (in this case not golf) don't count as a post, but here on GM they seem to. I guess most of those with a high post count have, in the main, been members for longer.

How do you quantify the 'quality' of a post?

(It has nothing to do with relevance to the OP, as often the funniest posts have no direct relevance)

Where do we go from 2500. A few of us are heading towards 3000 (is there life after the forum?). I'm not really sure if the numbers have any real meaning and which is why I wasn't keen on different coloured bag tags.

I'd rather not have the "tag" t.b.h.

So much so, It has been my plan (for a while) to re-register just to go back to square one.

There are *sometimes* negative connotations with being a newbie or an old "has been", particularly with talk of cliques or forumers siding with established members.

I can't be doing with any of this talk.

Post counts mean nothing, ive clocked up over 9 thousand on a forum ive been a member of since 2001, means nothing if its not of interesting content, some is and some isnt.
In fact Id go so far as to hide the post counts as too many people get caught up in how many posts folk have made.
Its not like you count how many words you speak per day etc.

Nicked from a website!

Poobah is a term derived from the name of the haughty Pooh-Bah in Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado. In this comic opera, Pooh-Bah holds numerous exalted offices, including Lord Chief Justice, Chancellor of the Exchequer, Master of the Buckhounds, Lord High Auditor, Groom of the Back Stairs, and Lord High Everything Else. The name has come to be used as a mocking title for someone self-important or high-ranking and who either exhibits an inflated self-regard, who acts in several capacities at once, or who has limited authority while taking impressive titles

Dave

I have to be fair and think that the talk of cliques has somewhat gone away after the animosity before Christmas. I know birdieman had a run in on a separate thread with another long term member but did the right thing and took the post out and apologised and I think they are back on an even keel

All forums have their spats. That happens when people are passionate about a subject, especially a fickle game like this. I don't want to be seen as some sort of keeper of the flame but I'll try and help smooth any ill feeling and will always call it how I see it.

I think the numbers are irrelevant. It is the content that makes this board so addictive not the number of times you write something.
