The internet golf forums are full of outrageous and delusional claims on swing speed and distances.
100mph genuine SS as measured by something reliable such as Flitescope (not the SS radar gizmo which way over measures) will give in neutral conditions and with a reasonable smash factor, a carry of around 235yds. In favourable conditions (elevated tee, wind behind, hard ground etc) one can gain a lot of yards, and vice versa in poor conditions. So a 100mph SS over a number of hits in various conditions will tend to average the neutral condition yardage. For every additional 1 mph of SS the carry distance gain is about 2.5yds (assuming decent smash factor). Thats what I see, with my own game, and with others, including some long hitters, and one beast who has a genuine SS of well over 130, and could compete in long drive if he wanted.
The thing is, 100mph genuine SS is pretty good! and its pretty rare from my own observations for higher handicaps to have that high a SS. Highish swing speeds are the result of good golf swings, and good golf swings tend to produce good results, so those people tend to have lowish handicaps. There always exceptions, chaps that beat the snot out of it but blast it all over, they will be posting about their 300yd drive, but omitting the 20 that were duffs or went off the course.
Good golfers know how far they carry the ball, you have to, to play well. They also tend to often hold back a bit for the sake of accuracy, 220 in the fairway wins over 250 in the weeds. Guesswork, delusions and hopes on distance are the hallmark of saddo's, wind-up merchants and hackers. Our friend here fits all three of those characteristics.
There's nothing wrong with hitting a cracking drive and wanting to share that with everyone! But this macho nonsense of unsubstantiated claims on prowess are childish, especially when the person posting hasnt anything to actually bragg about!
