I'm relatively new to the website and have to say i have thoroughly enjoyed browsing the posts over the last few weeks. The posts that crack me up are the ones where the members tell one another how far they hit their respective clubs.

i.e " i've got a Taylormade Whatever Driver and hit it 290 yards - h'cap 14" or the other week "i get 130 yards out my 55 degree Vokey wedge - h'cap 10 " You can see posts similar to these on a daily basis.

I would regard myself as a decent 3 h'cap - not the biggest hitter but by no means the shortest. I would never in my wildest dreams claim to hit the ball anywhere near the yardages that appear reguarly on the forum which begs the question:-

Do these golfers
A: Not actually have a bloody clue about their yardages.
B: Actually mean they can hit a driver for example 290 yards
now and again when conditions dictate as we all can.
C: Actually consistantly hit the ball miles but in the wrong
direction and are therefore not playing on the Tour.
D: Talking SH*TE (but giving me a good laugh into the bargain all the same)

Awnsers on a postcard please.

E.) All of the above. :D

Most of us here are very aware of our limitations and mostly say things like that to take the pish out of those who come on here claiming to be the biggest hitters in the world.

All of the above and Im afraid there are some poor deluded souls on here, there are some of us that can actually hit the driver 400 yards though. ;)

I totally hit my Driver 180YDs the other day, and I was happy with that........... seems I am not in the same league as some of these gods :D

I'm nowhere near consistent enough to know how far I hit each of my clubs which I think is the biggest problem when talking "averages" at my level.

Only time I have was when I got fitted for my driver and don't have a laser/gps or anything when out on a course.

I'm firmly in the "don't care" camp when it comes to distances for my game to be honest, as long as I get the ball round in a decent score I'm happy.

I've never got into the penis measurements, I kow I'm small but know my equipment works regular and consistent...

50 degree- 100 yds
7 iron - 145 yds
4 iron 190 yds
3 wood 210 yds
driver 230 yds

With NWJocko on this as am the same.

Don’t care if I can't hit driver 300+ yards into heavy rough as would rather play easy swing to middle of fairway and with a less shots as possible rather than all over the place with power.

Adi, if you dont mind me saying, your yardage spreads are all over the place.

A 190 yard 4 iron is fairly strong but the rest of your distances seem a little weak, is your 4 iron your favorite club striking wise?

I would not be too far off if not a bit shorter but i do have a bend to the left which seems to make all the difference! :o

I think a lot of peeps 'think' they hit further than they do, but what does amaze me is when anyone under say a 15H/C says ' I dont have a clue/dont care' how far I hit my Clubs. (NWJocko)

Surely an 11 handicapper has a good idea of his iron distances ?
I stood on our Par3 13th last night, and the yardage to centre of green was 162yds, Pin slightly back, so 166yds to Pin. Cue the 6iron, which went 3yds past with a light breeze behind.

Sure, my playing partners used a 4i & 5i, but I knew it was a 6 for me.
How many on here just 'guess' what they might need ?

Can only account for my own golf (thats hard enough ha)but playing golf on a fine day etc playing these made up holes..
par 4 300-320 yards , id hope to drive the green ( not carry it but drive it & i said HOPE) par 3 200-210 yards (no trouble in front) id be hitting a 3iron .. 170 yard par 3 id be hitting a 6 iron. 140yrd par3 would be a 9 iron etc.. would have good idea of my own yardages but wouldnt claim to be good enough golfer to say id hit it right every time . probably hit it sweet 7 outa 10 times .. never played a bad shot in the bar tho , all hit perfectly where i aimed :)

It is pretty simple, some people do hit it a long way, direction is key though as is scoring.
There is such a thing as an accurate long hitter, they dont reside in cat 3 and 4 handicaps.

Macster, I mean don't care in so much as whether 160 yards is a 7 iron, 6 iron or 3 iron.

I don't know, and have never measured, exact yardages for any of my clubs. I have no doubt it would help me if I then had something to accurately measure my distance left but, for now, I just use 150 yard markers and a look at what I've got left and decide from there which club to hit.

As I said, I'm sure knowing would help me but for what I'm looking to get out of golf at the moment I'm quite happy with my approach to things.

your right i think an 11 & below handicapper should be right to within 5-10 yards , & 6 handicapers & below should have that down to 5yrds , how many people look where the pin is on the green , flag at front versus on the back could be 25-30yards = to a club or even 2 more

Tell me about it! I play with guys who are better than me ( I'm 16, they are 6) and on the lower clubs I'm one club up from them but 4/3 irons I'm almost the same.

I've never been into hybrids, there is something more 'proper golf' about a nicely hit 4 or 3 iron.I hit a natural fade so don't really get much roll but I think I carry more distance generally than my pals who hit draws but get longer roll.I pretty accurate, though, so the actual lack of distance doesnt really bother me.

If only I could putt (average 39 per round)

Now there is a signature quote if ever I saw one!

Hybrids are just bland, end of. There is a lot to be said for a well struck long iron.
