After that I will know that I've got to play Murph by the 20th Jan, ChrisD by the 20th Feb and TheRod by 20th March... then it's onto the regionals before I pick up the trophy at Lytham in October :whistle:

(semi finals in the morning and finals in the afternoon, where the losing semifinalist will be my caddy in the afternoon of course!!)

But it's down to whomever is going to rope some kind of comp together, to be honest I'm not really that interested in an Order of Merit. My h/cap tells me what my ranking is. But if others prefer an OOM that's fine by me.... it's the majority vote that should count (and whoever wants to do the organising) not just my opinion

Moving forwards with JO recurring dream it looks As if we might have a final venue sorted just need them to host at a very favourable GM rate . :lol:
 
In theory the idea is great but could be tricky to pull together. that said I really do hope it gets off the ground.
I think initially we just need to gauge interest, if Theres enough interest from players/regions then take in from there.

Here's another question: In the "could this be done" thread someone said only those with proper handicaps count. So anyone (like me) who isn't a member of a club is already ruled out. Is there anyway those without 'official' handicap can be counted in?

Most have some sort of handicap from an app etc... use that then calculate last 3 rounds? I don't know how it would work. But I want to play and it's a shame I can't, I'm sure other would agree?

What is your 'approximate' h/cap?

What was your score @ West Hill??
 
Just use any of the online or apps for calculating your handicap and make sure you have played at least say 5 rounds which will calculate your handicap, you can print most of these out as proof.
 
Probably wont even be playing in this myself but how accurate would all our handicaps be if we just took our last 3 rounds as a guide .?. this will work fine until one of the non official guys get to the knock out stages ha ..


Not downing non official H'cap guys it just need to be laid out well before hand .. ie how cuts go from outset to when the finals are played etc .. not impossible just needs careful sorting
 
It is potentially a good idea, and one that would tick over throughout next season providing a bit of interest for all involved.
My concern is though... How many will actually sign up and commit to playing in it?

i think its a really good idea, just needs to iron out the kinks but there is loads of time for that.

I've only been to last years woburn meet (2 rounds) but will be going to woodhall spa next year (2 rounds)... I guess you'd really want to have dedicated qualifying meets to make it fair so everyone gets a chance to sign up and play enough rounds to count, this would also limit those playing in lots of the meets.

In terms of handicaps, i understand what Dufferman is saying, you wouldn't want to say no to the guys with non-official handicaps, so some thought into that is needed.
 
I guess if the regions are sorted and someone from that region is preparred to put the work in to sort a venue and date out then its a case of getting deposits in and then playing. If a region doesn't get enough, they have the option to join another region or they don't have a game then another place from other regions would be able to play in the final.
 
I don't think the handicaps for this are overly important (not to me anyway)

We're not exactly playing for the crown jewels - if someone wants to win it bad enough that they play off a moody handicap then they are welcome to it!!

Matchplay could be a possibility, based on a knockout format.

If entries were open until say January 1[SUP]st[/SUP]. Even if we had 256 entrants nationally (doubtful)after 1 month (March) Say April down to (128),month 2 (64) , month 3 (32), month 4 (16) by August it may be down to approx 8 individuals who could compete at a final in September/October.

8 in q/finals (morning), 4 in semis (afternoon), finals the next day.

Qualifiers – Once all the entrants (who have paid £10-15) are in we can then work out the regions (not before). We can also work out how many areas to have depending upon interest.

The main thing is, as long as people realise that in some of the later rounds, they may have to travel 2+hours, we should be ok. Each region will also have a “geographical” captain who will be responsible for draws etc

Example:-

Between Cumbria and North wales and including the north west may be 1 area.

Round 1

People are drawn against their nearest competitor on a north-south basis (of all regions), but you don’tplay people in the same club, as no fun in that.

Round 2, after all results are in a plan is drawn by the “captain”, then he does the same again. And keep doing that until each area (say 8 areas) have 8 people to send to the finals weekend.

So, ideally if there were 4 people who were in Cumbria they could play each other, same in north wales to avoid excessive travelling in the early rounds. After that you may have to travel possibly 1-2 hours, but most of us will do that. Also, as stated, if the home guy pays the green fees for the away guy, they only have to pay their petrol. Not bad.

As long as everyone knows what is likely going forward, there should be no problem. You cant cater to everyone in this geographically, but you can try to cut down on it, by early rounds being local games.

Cut off the applications in January, gives a few weeks to sort out the regions and the draws for first matches in March.
BTW shouldn't one of the two threads going on be stopped?

My score at West Hill was 33 - not 27, Robobum got my scoring wrong when doing maths...

Off 19 currently. I've got the app scorecards as proof, so if that's an acceptable form of handicap (as I'm sure a lot of people on here will be glad to hear) I'm in...!
