Yep I did mean a fiver in total each!!!
We play skins across groups of 20-30 golfers....as you say...the fun comes in the bar afterwards....you think you've got a 4 pointer that's gonna get you some skins and the tension builds as the previous holes scores are read out and the skins roll over....then some bugger pips you on the hole before, winning all the skins with just 2 points!!! We usually throw in 2 nearest the pins and two nearest the pins in 2 on a couple of short par 4's to spread the interest. When we start getting above 24 golfers we generally split the skins prizes into two groups otherwise you run the risk of more scores cancelling each other out and skins rolling over to the end.
As well as the skins....if we are in groups of 4 then there's usually a better ball pairs match going on at the same time within the group for added excitement.
