STEVE McCLAREN is ready to quit Nottingham Forest after just SEVEN games.

I for one hope this is not true, I do feel sorry for the bloke as it sounds as though he has been lied to in regards to the transfers of players and the backing that the board stated they would give him.

I for one hope he does stay and that the board start to trust a person who does know the game.

However I think he may go as he now has been shown the lack of ambition that the board have and they have proved that they do not in fact trust the sound judgment of STEVE McCLAREN.

If the board want a relegation battle/mid table club then they have achieved there aim this season.

Sorry about the rant, but as a Forest fan it really grips my s**t.

Midnight...

Best news I've heard all day!!

From a happy foxes fan ;)

On a serious note the board have obviously mislead mclaren as they have shown no ambition in backing the manager and again highlights the problems Billy Davies had in vetting the signings he wanted and not the panel.

Sorry to hear that mate ,, can relate to a board not supporting the manager as they should.. wouldnt realy rate mclaren tho .. as a toffee i feel your pain mate .. best of luck for a good season .. hammers for the championship , foxes to come us aswell id say ..

You know what, after my initial knee-jerk reaction to McClaren's hiring, I sat back and actually realised what a great aquisition it was. He painted a terrible picture of himself by taking on the National job and failing miserably but at club level he's got experience and had success with numerous clubs.

I truly believe he is the reason that McGugan, Chambers et al...have stuck around, which is great news for us.

The fact that the board lured him in with the promise of player investment and have not let him really spend any money sickens me.

The trouble is, most Forest fans didn't want him and will use this as a negative against him, which is completely the wrong attitude. This is all Dougherty's doing. All he's asking is for funds to build a promotion-worthy squad. We've got close the last two years, but we need experience and quality finishers. If you haven't got the funds don't tell your new manager you have.

I feel exactly the same as you Midnight...If McClaren stays, I think you see a quality football team emerge. If he goes, who else is there to take the job? Yea, that's what I thought.

Nice one chairman, you utter douche.

I thought with one or 2 players the guy that was there (Billy Davis was it)~ could have & should have got forrrest up .. lot of strong clubs looking for promotion now tho .. be though for ye ..

Yea, Billy was doing a fine job, but the reason he was outed was for the very same reason McClaren is looking to leave. He needed more funds to bring in a bit of quality and the board wouldn't budge. Both Davies and McClaren have made some great signings, but we just lack that bit of finishing quality.

It will certainly be tough this year, especially with all this going on. I can't imagine the likes of McGugan and Chambers wanting to stick around if it's like this and I'm sure they will be gone to the PL in January, leaving us with even less options.

Just seen on the Forest website :

Nottingham Forest have confirmed today that they will be making no comment on the considerable media speculation surrounding the future of manager Steve McClaren.

Putting aside the fact that I know Steve well, I'm always baffled by the ridicule he's attracted in his career, doesnt make sense does it ?

Its no coincidence that Man U won the Treble with Steve as Assistant Manager, Middlesborough reach the UEFA Cup Final, and FC Twente fish the 2 seasons with Steve in charge as Runners Up, and then Champions.

The only blot on Steve's career was his time as England Manager, but looking at it honestly,......who the hell has done well at that ????
Capello's results are just as bad, and quite why the FA have kept him is a joke......I think Gary Neville's recent comments on 'not really wanting to play' for England perhaps sum up the whole squads feelings deep down. It just gets in the way of their 'Main' carerrs at Club level.

Of course, then there is the Wolfsburg debacle, with Steve being 'sacked',.......but I cant say much about that, its confidential it seems.
Suffice to say, there is a helluva lot more to that than meets the eye, and the real reasons for Steve not being there anymore are his alone.

Back him to the hilt, as FC Twente did, and he'll bring any club results, but if he's been sold a dud, and conned into taking the job, he'll walk, and why not, he aint gonna be short of employers, here or abroad.

I hope he stays, and shows the Forest fans what he can do,......which with the Board's support, he could do.
If he stays, and gets that support, I'll bet he gets them back into the Premiership within 2 yrs.

Please tell him that Alot of Forest fans support him and realise that it's the board notstaying true to their promise.

I agree with everything you've just said and think he could have us back in the Prem this season, given the right backing.

I have to agree , with the backing I think he is the one that can get us to the prem. I hope he does not go as Forest will have lost a very good boss and we will become a laughing stock, who in their right mind would want to come and take over at Forest if some one like Steve left ?

Not a lot they can back him with now the window has shut!! The loan window opens next week so that's you're only chance.

But there's still January. We've enough quality to keep us mid-table until then.

And laugh all you like now, but Leicester still won't go up (again) this season, despite all the money that's been thrown at them. :) ;)

He's just released a statement on the club's website:
http://www.nottinghamforest.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10308~2439895,00.html

good man! Glad to hear he's staying, just hope the board can actually release some funds to get some players in the January window now. Loanies will do until then!

Up the football league we go! :D

Looks as though he has called them publicly on failure to invest. He had no intention of going but what he has done is shift fans focus from him and the teams poor start and onto the board. Very astute and the board now have to back him in the loan market and January. Nice bit of brinkmanship.

I can't see my lot doing it to be honest, on paper we should be along with west ham. I think some aren't handling the pressure that comes with it, murdered your lot first half and then let it slip, nearly the same with soton. Would love a leics v forest playoff final as long as we win!

I Was Happy When I Heard This, But then I saw a statement saying he is staying,

But I do feel sorry for him, not having the Board on his Side for getting new players In, in the Transfer Market.
But O Well, Its life Its Football. Just look forward to the next Game!!!

Best manager, and most sucessful one, Boro ever had. Given a very rough time by the media which was a large part for the trouble with England, and because far too many people believe the media that is why he is un popular now.

I hope he and Forest have a lot of sucess together.
