You might like this Slime. One of the most infamous cars of the 90's and linked to a series of robberies with those involved giving Police the slip!

Look at it, just look at it!
How can a piece of metal look this beautiful?
1955 300SL with 101,000 miles on it.
Auction ends in 2 or 3 hours time, surely it'll be north of £1M.

An absolute piece of motoring gorgeousness.
Something the modern plastic jelly mould will never come close to.
Personally I think most Merc's are beautiful up to around the very late 70's/early 80's.

Back to the original post. Went round to a pal of mines on Friday. He showed me the identical car to this. He paid £40k. He mentioned he was taking for the MOT yesterday. As it happened I saw him returning it to his garage. It is drop dead gorgeous when it’s on the road.

Why not, they are classics.
Granted something like an RS 500 has racing pedigree. But some cars that at going for tens of thousands weren’t great when they were new.

Seeing this thread makes me wish I still had one of my first cars. It was a Ford Orion Ghia with an Escort RS Turbo engine in, fake bonnet air vents, in pearlescent white paint that had a purple tinge through it depending on the light angle. Also had purple lights running along the sills on both sides that I could turn on and off with a switch in the car. Totally unreliable but was great fun to drive. Think I might have some photo's of it laying around somewhere.

No, sunny Coatbridge. It was a proper boy racer car until I hit a cat and wrecked the front bumper but couldn’t afford to get the whole car re-sprayed in pearlescent white and had to settle for basic white instead. ☹️ A lad I knew had his own garage and told me the pearlescent was going to cost £600 to do or he could do it in basic white for £200. 19 year old me chose the cheaper option.

Ah. There was a guy in the village I grew up in had an almost identical Orion. RS engine and bodykit, pearl paint and UV tubes under it.
Had the best sound system ever though with a pair of Sapphire subs in the boot and an Alpine/Clarion system for everything else.

Then one day he, and the car, just disappeared from the village. Haven’t ever seen or heard from him since.
