Saw a lovely 2.8 injection Capri today on my way home from work.
My first car was one of these - well not quite…it was a ‘83/84 plate unsouped up 1.6 Ghia version - in champagne gold…so it ‘looked’ pretty similar. Anyway…I loved it - I thought it was a great car (whether or not it was I don’t know).View attachment 53895
Back to the original post. Went round to a pal of mines on Friday. He showed me the identical car to this. He paid £40k. He mentioned he was taking for the MOT yesterday. As it happened I saw him returning it to his garage. It is drop dead gorgeous when it’s on the road.
I saw a Capri today also, first in a long time.Saw a lovely 2.8 injection Capri today on my way home from work.
My mate bought a Capri 2.8 earlier this year. 1982 Y plate in decent condition. Cost him just shy of £15k.
He collects classic cars (or at least what he considers classics) and has a Lancia Delta Integrale, a Sierra XR 4x4 and an Audi 80 Quattro Sport amongst his collection.
Last I spoke to him he had his eye on an Escort Cosworth but don’t know if he bagged one or not.
The Capri is nice, from a nostalgic point of view, but it is horrible to drive and much slower than one would remember them being.
Not sure thats the kind of classics he’s going for. Seems to be all mid 80’s early 90’s so far.Does he have an Austin Maxi 1750 yet?
Or an Allegro with a square steering wheel?Does he have an Austin Maxi 1750 yet?
I had one of them back in 1989. Probably the worst car I have ever owned.Does he have an Austin Maxi 1750 yet?
The same in its name only. Awful looking thing.Have you seen the new Capri?
It's an electric SUV coupé, ridiculous.
Or an Allegro with a square steering wheel?

Mine was bought as a second car just for commuting to work and had already had a hard life. The next owner after me was the scrap man . If I’m correct, the Maxi was the first British built car with a five speed manual gearbox.Definitely one of the best cars I ever owned, I had three in total, absolutely brilliant.

Just had to Google it. Quite innovative for the time. So the guy that “invented” the mini also did the Maxi. I wonder if the names were a coincidence or done on purpose?I think was also the 1st British FWD hatchback.
They go for serious money. My mate bought a Capri 2.8 earlier this year. 1982 Y plate in decent condition. Cost him just shy of £15k.

Probably a decent investment if you don’t put too many miles on the clock
