Guys I had a looksie through the for sale section there and it seems a lot of folk are being rather vague when it comes to items for sale. Do we all agree that there should be a uniform layout (much like autotrader! haha)with minimum criteria.
What do you think to each of these options and feel free to add anything I might have missed.

PS, I know this is the lounge but would like everyones input to get a wider view.

I think its just to clarify before mentioning to mike what folks think is acceptable when it comes to selling.
I think that if you are seriously trying to find an old club a new owner, a photograph is an absolute must, very few of the adverts actually have one. I don't like seeing links to "similar" items either as it can still be misleading.

I agree, particularly with a picture and the contact details. It may help avoid situations like Mono's. I don't actually use the section personally but don't want Mono or any other forrumer to get ripped off in any way

Not sure you need contact details as these can be sent by pm

another option could be location of seller

price - fixed price or guide price but state which

Yea location would be good. I think that contact details are a must, its just another way of adding confidence to the item and honesty so they cant wriggle their way out of defrauding someone out of potentially hundreds of pounds.

tbh I think we should scrap the FS section on the grounds of Mono and the likes (meaning his recent buy). If you know someone who wants something and you know them, then there is nothing stopping you making a private deal but when you advertise on a forum it opens the gates to dodgy people and people been ripped off (not that Paul2009 has done such a thing).

I just think the forum should be not be responsible for actions of member, I have nothing against people selling on EBay and advertising their sale on here, that way least people are covered by paypal and the likes imho.

The thing is Parmo, that item was never listed on here for sale so it could have happened either way. For sale is grand but at the moment it is too easy to get crap posts up, the more details given, the more confidence you have in the seller. I know that doesn't cut out the chances of a ripoff happening completely but it certainly works on other forums.

I got stung on flee bay, paypal are supposed to be sorting it out, correction, attempting to sort it out.
Its a load of ol buncum to say they will sort your claims dispute, its already cost me more trying to settle the claim with them than i will get back(in pain.)even though it was awarded in my favour...
Be carefull theres some baduns out there...

Yeah, you are right Brendy.

How about all posts been modded before going live? That way you know what’s going on there and its been approved (not saying GM take responsibility just to vet all new posts if that’s possible).

All posts or for sale posts? :D :D

Im not sure if that is an option with this forum but it is a good idea, they use it on another forum (non golf) that I have frequented for around 8 years now.

Agree there's some dodgy sellerss out there but I had a first class experience with PayPal when I got sold a fake FT-3 Driver a few years ago. They leaned on the seller (they still had his card details) and eventually took the money from him and gave it back to me. No probs.
The idea of all For Sale posts being modded is a good one if the system and the Mods can cope with it. Might delay a post for a day or so....

Parmo,
Its concise and fairly descriptive but why leave it that short when you have this much space?

True but I don't think many people would want to publish their phone numbers on the web. Even publishing just your email address can mean you end up getting loads of spam.

There are ways around that for example posting johnjohnstone at hotmail.com.
Plenty of people publish their mobile numbers on ebay etc. I dont see it being a problem, one, the other or both. Sellers cannot be allowed to sell virtually anonymously, that encourages dishonesty.
