Have you asked for the flag to be tended in the last year.

No, 30% say they have asked for it to be tended in the last year. That might have been once.
Which shows that there is still people out there wanting the flag tended and of course that doesn’t include all the pro’s

It’s not causing any issues so can continue to be used

So a useful poll 👍

This is basically what we do as well, if someone has a long putt, it's tended, then we remove it for everyone to finish up.

Exactly this.

I prefer it out because I’m a rap putter, especially on short ones with a bit of borrow. I prefer it attended on long ones because as Bdill says it helps, in my mind, with depth perception.

I honestly don’t care how everyone else wants to play it, I’ll respect their choice. As for those that would be arsey about it out on the course, guess who’s looking for their next ball carved into the cabbage by themself…?

Do you rap modern songs, or maybe a bit of old school NWA?

I can't remember the last time that I asked for the flagstick to be attended for me.
And I can't remember the last time someone asked me to attend the flagstick for them.

I never had a problem with either of the above.
I continue to have no problem with either of the above.

I've given a lot of consideration to how I might become irritated by flagstick attending. I simply can not imagine ever being so.

The compulsory leave-the-flag-in during covid restrictions convinced many players to have the flag out for putts after witnessing a few adverse effects.
That is my experience.

I voted "NO" to having asked for the flag to be tended in the last year. I would only ever ask for the flag to be attended.
This is the opposite of what me and HID have come across.

I rarely ask for the flag to be attended, maybe 2 -3 times in that last year (playing 3 times a week). However, I might do when playing a windy course where the flag might be leaning towards me.

I like the flag in for longer putts as I feel it helps my distance perception, and our flags are not the ultra slim bases, they just taper in slightly.

For anything under, say 20 feet, I am always a flag out guy.

TBF I've not encountered anyone who wants the flag back in after its out , once out it stays out.
You dont play enough then.

I played last year with a pair of Yorkshire men in the Moray Open.

On the first I said " once the flag is out it stays out hey lads?"

The reply from one of them " I like puttin' wit' flag in, so it goes back in"

He had two bounce outs in the first four holes from close range and after that, once the flag was out, it stayed out.

Please don't call me a liar on a public forum.
Apologies, but I was joking. The art of emojis is something I’m still learning.

I did find your “once it’s out it stays out lads” to be a bit disrespectful.

If someone wants it in, it goes in. Just the same as asking for it to be attended.

I agree. If others in the group want to put it in and out....they get to.

Accepted.

My "once it stays out" comment was, at the time, phrased as a question...not an instruction. At the time they had not expressed a preference either way.

We had all putted from range to varying distances...I was first to make my second putt from around 3ft and took the flag out and then asked the question. It was then that I was told he wanted it back in for his putt from around 2ft. His mate then wanted the flag out for a similar length putt.

It was an interesting opening 4 or 5 holes to say the least.

One of the reasons put forward several times is pace of play.

Let’s just look at that for a second… you’re in a fourball. On each of the 18 holes any combination want the flag in/out. Consider how long it takes to walk 10 yards to attend it. If the next closest person to the hole attends the flag he isn’t delaying play when he walks back to his ball. Then there’s several holes when all 4 might want it out or left in.

Just how much time are we talking about wasting here? 10 holes X 30 seconds… 5 minutes? Those that are talking about pace of play… really…?
