I voted "NO" to having asked for the flag to be tended in the last year. I would only ever ask for the flag to be attended.
I have never in my life been asked to attend the flag.

I have never in my life asked someone to tend the flag for me.I have never in my life been asked to attend the flag.
To be fair, the question wasn't 'would you?' or 'would you refuse to?' it was simply have you done it or have you been asked to do it. That in itself is not controversial.I didn't vote....because unless they change the rules it is a choice everybody should be able to make. With all the discussion/arguments on this site about etiquette.....all that goes out the window when It's something they don't like.
I am genuinely surprised that as many as 30% are still asking for this. I can't remember being asked to do it since before Covid etc.
It's a strange quirk that anyone who hits the flag with a putt assumes it would have otherwise dropped .It aint hard to get your head around
Its nice to look at a flag for a long putt but know itll be coming out somewhere on its roll towards the hole - so you cant blame the flagstick if it hits it and then doesn't drop!![]()
Didn't say I didn't understand it, I'm just surprised. I think people overthink it. If I hit the flagstick and it doesn't drop, it usually means I've hit it too hard anyway - and the flag normally helps you by leaving it close for a tap-in rather than lipping out 4 feet away. If you hit it with the right weight and speed at the middle of the cup - it drops whether the flag is in or not. That is my belief anyway - I guess others can be swayed one way or the other by confirmation bias.It aint hard to get your head around

I'll tell Matt Fitzpatrick you said helloThere was an incident on the LPGA where a player hit a putt that wasn’t too fast and was in the middle of the hole , hit the flag square on and popped out
There is every chance that it can happen
Seen it happen as well
Most leave the flag in hoping that helps them leave the ball closer with it hitting the flag , prob because they struggle with pace of the putts
Flag in putting appears to be mainly the domain for the poorer putters hoping it helps them
Well he isn’t top 50 in the putting statsYes @Arthur Wedge you can go on the BBC iplayer and watch lots of golf. It's pretty much flag in or out. Very little tended.
And this guy must be a poor putter
got the evidence to back that up ?Well he isn’t top 50 in the putting stats
Guess if is show all the hundreds of golfers than don’t have the flag in
Why don’t they all have the flag in if it’s so beneficial
But it’a now just a replica of the thread you previously started
The results of the poll seem clear
Plenty still have the flag tended![]()
This is rubbish. More likely that lower players are superstitious traditionalists who can't accept that a bounce-out means they hit it too hard - can't be their fault. There was an incident on the LPGA where a player hit a putt that wasn’t too fast and was in the middle of the hole , hit the flag square on and popped out
