Finer points of playing foursome golf.......

A good job me and you didn't do it at Silloth, we'd still be on the back 9 now.;)
Ishudder to think how many times we hit a fairway, my game was in tatters that weekend and Silloth really helped with its wide fairways, non existent rough and easy greens

Purest for of golf is scratch foursomes.

The 'never say sorry' thing is more about not letting your head drop if you are playing poorer golf than your partner. That is easy to do in foursomes and the main reason why couples lose matches. You have to stay positive and 'in the now'.

I played greensomes last year which was a good experience and am looking forward to this years pairs comps .

Haven't had my first foursomes experience yet but can't wait, was entered in the south west winter foursome's last November but was in a car accident 2 days prior the 1st round and snapped my right thumb back, absolutely devastated I was, still went range next day in plaster cast hitting balls with 1 hand, needless to say I had to pull out :( ....have enjoyed a few threesomes over the year's mind :o... end of day it's a round golf, enjoy it keep smiling and good luck!!

Work out very carefully which holes you will tee off, I think that is the most importnat part of foursomes. If you are on a course with long par 3's you may want the longer hitter in the partnership to take that tee shot. The other thing is on the par 5's, if your partner smacks one off the tee, can you then maybe get onto the green? Or are you better off taking the tee shot and letting your partner hit to the green if he is a bigger hitter.

There are a lot of things to work out when it comes to foursomes. But just go ut and enjoy it, I think too many people get worried about this format because you can let your partner down if he is playing a blinder adn your having a knightmare.

It's a tough format but a great challenge too. I prefer greensomes but have a lot of foursomes coming up this season - next Tuesday and Thursday for starters! Tuesday is at home and the general consensus at our place is the better player takes the evens. Thursday is away at a 9 hole course with not many variations on tees on the "back" 9 so it's almost irrelevant who takes odds and evens. Played it with my partner this week to establish what would be most beneficial and as our drives are much the same but her fairway woods much straighter than mine we decided based upon a couple of long Par 4's where the 2nd shot is tougher.

Enjoy :-)

I have a foursomes comp on Sunday. My partner and I always play like Muppets, because we feel under pressure to perform for the other one, and try to steer it round without messing it up.

Advise?

Play your game like it doesn't matter, and have a laugh.

Unless you have lay ups to carry a hazzard or something just play your normal game , surely your "normal" intention is to get the ball in the best place available to score well

if you have lay ups to the green work out together roughly what distance your partners happiest with ..

Both realise the other person didnt mean to play a bad shot, because chances are both will hit bad shots , shrug it off and get on with it .. win as a team & lose as a team . enjoy the company & chat & smile your way around

Thanks for all the tips, as I have never met my partner before I guess my first job should be to track him down and find out the good/not so good points about his game.

Whilst I'd prefer to take the odd holes, I'm pretty comfortable with teeing it up on odds or evens to be honest, so I'll probably give my partner the choice.

The best part about foursomes?

When you book the first tee-slot after the comp it's like following 2-balls!

There aren't many formats I avoid, scratch that, there's only one format I avoid - foursomes!

Surely that should read mixed 5 club foursomes bogey?

I'm playing foursomes bogey on Sunday. Can't wait......actually, I probably can.

I love it, as long as you're paired with a scratch player that has a sense of humour. I've played twice with one of my PP's. The second time he brought his old clubs, I asked why? "Last time i got so many scratches on my nice blades, hitting it out of the S**t you put me in!" With a massive grin on his face.

I can imagine if i was with someone i thought took it too seriously, or got annoyed at me, I would hate that format of the game.
