Started playing this infuriating game around 2002, so getting on for 25 years now.
Played today and got my first ever hole in one. (Thought it would never happen).
Strangely muted feelings - there was no whooping and hollering; no high fives with my playing companions.
Just a kind of "oh! it went in!" and a friendly handshake.

Think that would be me too . Congrats

Congratulations, but need more details. Did it pitch on the green, 2 hops then roll serenely to the hole, pitch past and zip back or topped and rolled all the way in?

Congratulations! What course and hole?
Honiton. 2nd hole.

A gentle 7 iron (sort of halfway between a chip and a full shot) pitching front of green, then rolling into hole.
The idea that someone of my limited abilities (index 15.0) might be able to pitch past and zip back is laughable.

Finally?
This might be initially.

You must keep an open mind to the possibility or another one or two.

I started playing 1970 and, just like you, it took me about 23 years to get one.
But I had two more in the following 30 years.

You have unlocked the new level! Unless it was a worm burner and just rolled up and in … then you are a lucky person.
I haven’t holed out in the last 20yrs since the 3 I have had. I think it’s the worry of the bar bill when you know a San Miguel is £6/pint and there will be at least 30 people in the bar…

There were 6 of us playing in two 3 balls. When we got to the clubhouse, the bar was thankfully empty. So just a round for my mates. A lucky escape!

Our club is a bit more sensible, do it in a social game and you can put a bottle of spirit of your choice* on the bar and just pay the cost the cubs pays for it. Do it in a comp and the club pays for two bottles on the bar.

*most frequently seen is a bottle of port.

*Port is a fortified wine - not a spirit.

It should be everyone in the bar buying drinks for you … or chipping in for a meal 🤣 … if this were the case, would I have more hole in ones? In my dreams I would have 1 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday… reality nah no impact whatsoever can’t hit the par 3 greens currently!!💩

Congratulations!

The lack of celebration sounds a bit like my only hole in one. A winter's day with not the best visibility, my ball looked to be right on the hole but we couldn't see it land.
Got to the green and it was nowhere to be seen, we looked in the scrub at the back of the green but couldn't find anything so I was chalking it down as a lost ball, then a PP holed out and said, "Oh, there's a ball in here already". My shot had pitched right in the hole and left a mark on the edge of the hole. Didn't seem worth a big yahoo so long after the event!
