Nice to see Garcia doing well in the build up to the Ryder cup after scrapping a wild card

Oh wait ......

But glad Stenson is looking solid

It’s day one on a big tournament in the States, why can’t people just enjoy the great golf on display rather than whine or try and point score?

Tiger and Rors tied at the top of a FedEx Cup final series event with matching 62's. Amazing stuff. Would not have seen that coming just over 12 months ago when Tiger was barely cleared to start pitching again. Golf is just pure entertainment at the minute, such a good time to be a fan of professional golf!

Such a shame that the 8th hole was a poor hole for both players - it’s a ridiculous hole with plenty of good shots being punished . Didn’t really see many or Rory’s shots but his driving stats were supposed to be be superb. Woods looked like he putted superbly.

Going to be an interesting Comp - Stenson said the winning score going to be well into the 20 unders - wide fairways , soft slow greens - perfect for low scores

Woods' putting was much improved from the last couple of weeks, but it was his iron and wedge play that was beyond impressive. His shot to set up eagle on 16 was one of the best iron shots I've seen since he came back, absolutely flagged it. His tempo with his irons was unreal, and his driving tempo is much improved as well, nowhere near as aggressive on the transition. He's finally working out how to bring his range driver swing to the course, it's exciting.

Wow another chance for Rory - this could be a special round for him - some great birdie chances ahead - maybe a 60 or lower, striking the ball very well and wedges look sharp. Shame Sky blowing smoke up Tigger instead

Well he is the top dog in the golfing world. People pay for Tiger, his draw and stock is much greater than Rory's will ever be.

Haven't seen a shot yet but sounds like they both had great rounds. Only one round of course but plenty of big names sitting around par or 1 under so not everyone found it so easy, did weather change a lot through the day?
Really hope these two stay on fire for the rest of the month at least

Nice that it also gives us an answer to the claim "when Rory's 'on' no one can touch him" (which of course we can only measure when Rory's on regardless of what anyone scores when Rory's not on)
:)

Rory was on for a 59, needing 2 birdies in his last 3 holes (the 7th, 8th and 9th on the course, with the 9th being a par 5).

7th, a sharp dogleg he his driver right over the corner and onto a very small target, running out of fairway long. Tried to get too cute with a wedge from 68 and dropped it in the front bunker. Didn't get up and down and that was effectively that.

the 8th is a brutal par 3. Playing something like 240 yards to a massive saucer shaped green. Rory got above the hole and just ran off the back of the green. He was basically in an impossaible spot with all sorts of slopes around the pin. Chip and run ran well past the hole and he missed the putt back.

9th - he hit a fairway metal from 223 and made a routine 2 putt birdie.

Only saw those 3 holes, and wee bit of him last Sunday (3rd round) but he looks in far better shape than he did at the PGA. Maybe the week off helped him and I'm sure he is also focussing on the little get together in Paris at the end of the month.

Xander tearing it up at the moment. If he wins here, there could be a good chance he takes the last Ryder spot away from Finau?

Just turned on to watch it and it’s a recording?! Seems they played early - checked the scores and first after all the doom and gloom in regards the US apparently going to stuff Europe I see there are a good number of the a Europeans up near the top and also what happened to Tigger ? Was scoring not as good today

Plenty of low scores around
Tommy shot 62, Frankie shot 63.
Tiger was level and if you're not shooting mid 60s or better then you're getting left behind.
Think they had bad weather coming in so went out earlier to get finished.

Pity our wild cards are stinking the place out, though, 2 or 3 of their superstars aren't pulling any trees up either.

On a side note, my son on the first tee this afternoon, no not playing, building the thing unfortunately.
