Favorite meal straight in the bin

don't know what all the fuss is about,a horse is just a cow without udders as far as meat goes and don't be fooling yourselves, that nice steak and chips you eat in FRANCE,SPAIN PORTUGAL ETC was pulling a cart the week before, its the BRITISH love affair with animals and horses that stops us eating them even thou the meat is far healthier than cows.

My only concern would be any drugs that had been administered to the horse.
With Gee-Gees not generally being in the food chain for us Brits, when they get ill, or as innoculations they get injected with certain drugs that may or may not be harmful to us - if these chemicals are still in the body when the Neddy is slain then they could find their way into the chain.

Other than that I have no problem with it - just label it as what it is......

What like Ketamine?

;)

My father used to be a wildfowler and game shot.
If it has flown or has 4 legs and ran in the UK, I will probably have eaten it.
Grouse, woodcock, snipe, duck, goose, pheasant, partridge, hare, rabbit and deer.
No horse to my knowledge.
Maybe even curlew as the were not banned until 1953.

Found. New recipe for lasagne last night on the findus forum, instead of cheddar in th cheese sauce, they suggest mascarpone!

If they lie about the MAIN ingredient in their products, how can you be sure about the other ingredients they put in.

I don't believe that the likes of Findus etc. (consciously) lie about the contents. Just that somewhere in the chain one of their suppliers has lied - and the controls haven't been good enough to detect it before it hits the retailer.

got relations who are farmers, some farms in Scotland are still affected by chernobyl

If they are still suffering from the effects of it (excess radiation), I'd avoid those farms. If it's just from consumer fear, I'd do the same as you.

I normally have a Lamb Roast at the pub across the road on Sundays. Lamb was sold out by 1:30 last Sunday but there was plenty of Beef left!

When this horse meat thing kicked off, they showed a whole raft of products that contained horse meat, one was Aldi Oakhurst burgers, we had some of them a while back, best tasting burgers we've had and I'm not a big burger lover.

We've been using a local butcher since getting some great stewing steak before Christmas. Yes it is more expensive but the quality is a world apart from the processed stuff in supermarkets. We tend to buy a bulk load and freeze plenty of it and the guy usually chucks a few extra bits in and gives a discount for buying so much and customer loyalty

I picked up a Morrisons Aberdeen Angus Lasagna tonight, its my regular post cinema dinner, usually there are popular but today there were loads left on the shelf. i cant see the problem with them myself, unless Aberdeen Angus was the name of a horse.

Too much paranoia around in my opinion.
