Favorite meal straight in the bin

no, but i only buy beef that is marked Scottish, same with lamb.

Don't you have horses up there?
As there are 6 abattoirs in the UK that are licenced to slaughter horses that's still no guarantee your getting just Scottish beef or if it's Scottish beef at all.
Nowt wrong with a bit of horse, I've eaten it dozens of times on the continent and it's never affected me, infact I personally prefer it to beef.

The idea of having eaten horse meat doesn't bother me but the fact it wasn't meant to be in the food does. If they have cheated on the type of meat used, they could have also cheated on the quality etc.

Firmly in the horse meat in't so bad, it's the fact it wasn't labelled that's the issue for me. Which isn't necessarily the fault of the supermarkets as they were likely under the impression that it was beef being added. I'm not going in to any arguments on what checks are/ aren't or should be in place to ensure the food, if you had a contract with a reputable meat supply company to provide you with beef, why would you think they were providing horse?

As for eating horse, have had horse sashimi (raw horse meat) in Japan....was quite tasty.

I certainly wouldn't have thrown the meatballs away ..... I got some Meatballs from Tesco the other night and they really were the Dogs Bolloxs :-)

I'll get my coat .....

Said to my Mrs this morning that we should really just think about using better cuts of meat and meat that we know the provenance of. If that means using less meat as better cuts are more expensive then so be it. I can't think of the last time I didn't make enough chilli or bolognese sauce - or the last time there wasn't enough beef in the beef in red wine. Apart from making us careless about the food we eat - cheap cuts make us careless about how much we eat and our weight and health. If we eat less and better meat, and more veg. No bad thing.

ive eaten horse before in France and there was nothing wrong with it.
certain butchers in Ayrshire and Scotland as a whole will sell local beef. u can ask for the name of the farm. also Morrisons source there's fae Scotland and are very proud in telling you where it came from. got cousins who are beef farmers one load goes to a Supermarket and the other sold locally.
theres a farm outside kilbirnie who sell all meat which is grown on his farm (and i think slaughtered there, as he has a license)
i live 6 minutes away from a slaughterhouse (its next to my away course) and in all my time ive never seen a horse there or heard one neighing. plenty of cooos.
also down the road from me is Robertsons the Hamcurers and im 100 % certain that no horses are involved. pigs are brought in from the whole of Scotland and further to be cured.
