Packing an overnight rucksack

Son is off to his first army cadet CCF overnight .. just trying to help him put all his stuff in his MTP rucksack.. anyone has a system?

Things he has to carry

Full Combat MTP (including jacket), boots, bush hat, T Shirt, rucksack containing sleeping bag, sleeping mat, fleece, warm hat and gloves, suncream, 2 black bin bags, mug, water bottle, head torch, foot powder, spare socks, toothbrush, toothpaste and wet wipes. They will be issued with a 24hr ration pack at the start of the exercise

now need to find a way to fit all that in the rucksack.

It’s going to hot out there today and I do worry about the weight he will carry but I am trusting that the seniors will be looking out for them.

My lad is in the ATC and does regular camping trips.

Sleeping bag and mat don’t normally go IN the rucksack, sleeping bag gets tied up at the bottom and the mat goes on the top. Most 65L and over hiking style rucksacks have straps and clips for these to attach to.

For his DoE Silver he had to have a full change of clothes, stove, gas canister, mess tins in addition to all the above and it all fitted no problem in his 65L pack.
