That happened on Saturday.

I'd been looking forward to my casual 4 ball with my best mates for weeks and even woke up at 6am on Saturday morning unable to get back to sleep because of the excitement.

After bacon and egg butties and tea we headed up to Belton Park to start our round.

Long story short, pushed just about everything all day and couldn't for the life of me figure out what I was doing until I hit the last hole. It was extremely frustrating. Now I remember why I hate this game sometimes!

All wasn't lost in hindsight, hit a few good short iron shots and pitched out of the edge of a pond to within 15ft of the hole on the 13th (blind shot up a sharp bank to the hole).

Also sank some monster putts and only 3 putted once on the day, which is great considering my putting has always been the weakest part of my game.

Ended up 22 over par (which is about 5 or 6 shots over my "unofficial" handicap), but I'd have been happier if more of my long iron shots and drives hadn't sailed right!

I feel the same every now and then . Just have to take the positives from your round and look forward to your next round.......Could be worse, could be thinking that you dont ever want to play the game again  ;)

Sometimes. Usually after I've been hitting the ball well at the range and going into a competition. The feeling usually lasts until I record my first blob or double bogey which on current form can be the 1st or 2nd

yip happens to me often, especially if i have been playing well...I get too quick and hook the crap out of it.

I was really looking forward to my first game back at my own club after playing Forest Pines.

I was far better than usual off the tee there and thought I'd finally cracked it. Single figures here we come!!

Back to my course and back to not quite knowing which way it was going to go off the tee.

Now where did I put that drawing board??

5 or 6 over handicap when you're a high handicapper is not playing terribly. We're high handicappers mainly because we're inconsistent, rounds like this are going to happen.5 over H'cap is approx 20% of my handicap, for a guy off 1 it would be 500%, therefore I don't expect my scores to be as consistent as those of a better golfer.

I was very excited to play in one of our 'majors' a few days after winning a medal, and all I was hoping for was to keep up my decent form and manage to play to my new handicap...

...shot 108 :( :o :D

I organise a week-end away for myself and some mates every August/September.
Last year we played at Lanhdrock in Cornwall. Hadn't been down there for a good 6 or 7 years and was really looking forward to going back. I had been playing some decent golf, driving well etc. Couldn't wait. I was going to kill the course.
1st round........5 points on the front nine and 12 on the back. That speaks volumes for getting too excited.
And it hardly got any better the whole week-end.

I used to do it all the time, especially if I was playing well. I used to go to sleep at night playing the course in my head and would always wake up at stupid o'clock and not go back to sleep.

I'm a lot more relaxed about golf these days and as a result I'm playing better

Done something similar to Smiffy, with our yearly society do down at the Ashbury Hotel in Devon last weekend, went out with 11 points and returned with 3, to finish the opening day with 14 points and last place (17th)with quite possibly my worst round ever.
Things didn't get a lot better for the rest of the weekend but I did manage to hoist myself up to the dizzy heights of 14th place. It's so bloody frustrating.

Been playing quite well most of this year, was expecting to tear the course up yesterday, stableford comp off yellows.

Scored 35 points, with a real mixed bag:

6 pars :)
6 Bogeys :)
3 Doubles :(
3 Disasters :o
100% Fairways hit
33% GIR :)
35 Putts :(
2 Penalties :o

Yep happened me yesterday.....
Was well up for the round yesterday morning I was at the seaside with the family and drove for 1 1/2 hours. Got to the club early...Had some t and a scone.

20mins chipping practice and 20 mins putting before my crew arrived......
I had 7 points after 3 holes(not looking too badly i thought to myself) I hit a lovely 5 iron into the wind on our 4th and was just short....Chipped on and 4 putted and after that i chopped and hacked my way around for 28 points........I never threw the towel in though......

Oh and all this with a piece of steel in my cornea since friday at work which happened when i was welding......A trip to the hospital this morning to get it taken out only to get an earful off the doc as to why i hadn't come in earlier that weekend....Its still lodged there and i have to go back in the morning to see if he can get it out...It has burnt itself onto the surface of my eye......Alot of discomfort and a crap round but how could i explain to the Doc my dedication to the game...... :o :D :D

Happens to me a lot.

Usually when it's a really nice day. I'm so happy to be out in the sun and not at work that I don't concentrate on playing and usually by the time I've got my head in it again the round has got away from me.

But hey, I'll take a bad round of golf in the sun over sitting at my desk any day :D
